Northumberland Lookup Requests / Newcastle Courant 1752
« on: Saturday 24 November 12 20:06 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone have access to this please.
Saturday 4th Jan 1752, page 3 & 4 classifieds
There is an interesting snippet regarding "Mr Greaves, watchmaker at his house on the Quayside"
I'm at a loss as to which Mr Greaves this may be if it is a death notice. William Greaves, my 4x g/grandfather died in 1780 and his father Richard in 1742. They were both watch/clockmakers
Thanks Sylvia  :)

Hi all

many thanks Sylvia

Last night I put a request for a lookup on FindMyPast of an apprenticeship document for Robert Smith 1830 +/-5 years in Spalding. Today I was emailed that Isobelruss had put a reply on the board.
When I opened all  I get is....

An Error Has Occurred!
The topic or board you are looking for appears to be either missing or off limits to you.

I've tried alll the ways I can think of to find it but am coming up with the same message all the time, is there a problem please???

Northumberland Lookup Requests / St Andrew 1652 marriage
« on: Friday 17 August 12 10:00 BST (UK)  »
Sorry folks I know this might be a hard one but both Genuki and Familysearch have George Hymers marrying George  (?) Kiching on 22nd July 1652 and I wondered if this could be right?
Does anyone have access to such early records please?
many thanks Sylvia

Northumberland / In a bit of a pickle with all the Matthews in Corbridge
« on: Monday 07 May 12 21:40 BST (UK)  »
I was happily going along with all the Matthew Cutters in my family until yesterday.
The definate one I have is Matthew Cutter in Corbridge baptised 1692, father Matthew, and married to Susannah Nixon in 1718. There is a probate record which I thought must be him dated 1759 giving his occupation as Blacksmith.
Now here's where it gets tricky...the only baptism for my Matthew on Family Search and the Corbridge Registers is a baptism in 1670 with yet another Matthew as father.
Yesterday I came across an interesting document on Documentsonline stating....
"Short title: Cutter v Cutter.
Document type: Bill only.
Plaintiffs: Matthew Cutter, blacksmith, Joseph Cutter, yeoman, Charles Cutter, tailor and Thomas Cutter, yeoman all of Corbridge, Northumberland (only surviving brothers of Samuel Cutter, yeoman deceased late of Newark upon Trent, Nottinghamshire), Anthony Hobson, yeoman of Whale Lowther, Westmorland and Jane Hobson his wife (said Jane Hobson is the only child of John Cutter, yeoman deceased late of Aydon, White House, Corbridge who was another brother of said Samuel Cutter).
Defendants: Ann Cutter.
Date of bill (or first document): 1750. "
Checking all the names gives all the sons except Matthew a father called Charles.
Am I missing something here? My Matthew (1692?-1759) named his eldest son Charles
Hope you can understand all this, it's a bit mind muddling

Lincolnshire / Wainfleet marriages
« on: Friday 27 April 12 22:29 BST (UK)  »
I was checking a Familysearch marriage on Lincs to the past at Wainfleet St Mary

James Hynman
bride's name: Grace Whiteing
marriage date: 03 Jun 1686
marriage place: Wainfleet All Saints,Lincoln
indexing project (batch) number:M03370-2

The image on Lincs says there were no marriages at all in 1686  ??? In fact there are very few marriages there. It seems a bit odd. Is it possible Banns were read there and the marriage took place somewhere else? If so any suggestions please as to where?
I'm trying to find out if Grace Whiting was a widow at the above marriage.

Ooops I think I was looking at Wainfleet St Mary, not All Saints

Northumberland / Is there a will?
