Hi Gillyches! Great to see someone else hunting the Swinnocks! ;D

I have got no further in the last couple of years unfortunately, although i must admit my research has been on hold for a while. I do have the 8 children (but not the ?+2) so can give you all the info i have on those Gill if you need it. From memory, i got them from the IGI.

I also have Allen and Martha as parents to Martha Mason - not rock solid, but based on the fact that she's the only baptism i could find :-X

Am trying to slowly get back into research mode so hopefully in the next few months we will crack Thomas!

Thanks Casalguidi! Its so lovely of you to update my thread after so many months  ;D

I've since traced that line back another couple of generations, and now having more headaches! You'd think it'd be easier with such an obscure name!

Thanks again,

Clare  :)

Thanks Bearkat. Have seen these entries before, still can't seem to work out who Thomas' parents were. Although, it is likely there's a link with the John Swinnock in Boxley.

Its so frustrating, its such a rare name I was hoping it'd be fairly easy to trace! Looks like i might have to leave this one for now...

I'm struggling to find any more information on my direct maiden name line (the one i particularly want to trace!) and am looking for some advice on where to go now.

The furthest back i have found (thanks to the IGI :-\) is Thomas Swinnock, married to Martha Mason in 1775 so he was probably born about 1750-55. His birth, unfortunately, isn't on there!

Where do I go from here? Anything past the census i get a bit confused :-[ I obviously need to look at the Maidstone Parish Registers, is there any way i can do that sat many miles away in Nottinghsmahire?!

I knew I should have listened at school ;D

I'll try giving the library a ring, Thanks Casalguidi

Kent / Old Photos of Maidstone?

Does anyone know if there are any surviving photos of Maidstone (Week St/Sandling Road), early to mid 1800's? A few of my direct descendents had businesses there, including one who was a hairdresser and I'd love to know if any exist.

Information gratefully recieved!

Many Thanks,

Thanks for all of your posts ;D William Turner looks like a definite possibility.

I'm fairly new to family history, so anything further back than the census fazes me a little at the moment :-[

Poor Susannah. Didn't seem to have much luck with husbands!

Not sure how I go about identifying Alfred's father though ??? I don't have a marriage for him yet, no telling that would identify him but it might be a place to start?

I'm looking for more information about Alfred Vincent TURNER. Courtesy of another Rootschat member (;D) I have the following 1871 census entry for him:

1871  RG10/249  f.68  p.52  St Pancras, London
41 Peckwater Street

Alfred Vincent TURNER  Head  38  Housepainter  Berks Windsor
Ann                               Wife  27                      No Knowledge
Edward James              Son    7  Scholar
Alfred Vincent               Son    5  Scholar
Emily                             Daur   3
William J                        Son   1             All children born Middlesex St Pancras

From the 1881 census, Ann's birthplace is Poplar. She is, by now, a widow - Alfred died in 1871 (although she has young children born after this time with the surname Turner  :o).

I've had a look myself on the 1861 but can't find Alfred - my knowledge of London districts is very poor (I thought all my lot were from Kent!) so I'm hoping someone with a better eye than me can find him.

Many Thanks!
