She's down on her marriage certificate as May but registered at birth and on 1891 census as Lillian May. By 1901 she'd obviously decided she didn't like Lillian! So its definitely the correct family!

Unfortunately not. I received his daughter's marriage certificate this morning (she was a bit of a puzzle too!), and so just have a name and his entry on the 1891 with his wife Emma. Found their marriage, Q1 1889 Faversham.

John born abt 1870 Oare sounds more like it (Faversham basically!), its definitely the correct family as Emma is on the 1891 born Boughton - I'm sceptical about Snargate as its quite a way away. Is one of the children called Lillian May? (My GGrandmother). She'll be about 12. Perhaps... Edward is Johns father?

Another certificate, i think...!

Does the 1901 give a different birth place?

I'm wondering whether he was a name swapper (as was his daughter) - There's a Frederick John Gurr 1867 born in Faversham (which is where he and Emma were married). Saying that, i can't see him on the 1881 either!

I am looking for a John GURR on the 1871 census, born Abt 1867.

He appears on the 1891 with his wife Emma, and his birthplace is noted as Ramsgate. However, i can't find him on the 1881 census. I'm hoping he'll be on the 1871 (4 yrs?) so I can identify his parents/siblings.

Spotted a problem - May GURR b. 1887 Blean was registered as May Victoria, I've now found her marriage in 1908 and it doesn't pair up with an Arthur Twyman.

The marriage definitely says May L - I may have to trawl through the BMD to find her birth and hope she was registered May L - although being married in 1911, she must be on the 1901 census at least.

Perhaps my mum was mistaken, and that side of the family weren't from Thanet...

Thats the May Gurr I identified too (b.1887 Marshside), so I now feel like I'm definitely going in the correct direction  :)

Are there anymore siblings on the 1871 for either families? And if possible, could you do an earlier lookup on the fathers for me?
