Technical Help / Re: Not loading properly/taking ages

It's more important to re-boot the modem/router.  The clients should take care of themselves, if they are correctly set up.  Problem is, of course, that about 50% of routers are not correctly set up  :D

How full is disk C: ?

If the disk becomes too full it will suspend the Recycle Bin.   You would be receiving warnings about low disk space at this point.

I have been helping a member of the Family research her line.

She gave me certs to help.

Just being nosy,i looked on GRO index for her Grandads Death,1976.

No,it is not there.

What was the registration date for the death (not the date of death) ?

Deaths are often registered in the quarter following the actual death date.

The child could have been a 'foundling' - a baby left on the steps of the church or vicarage.

Technical Help / Re: DVD player ........ no disc?

It's probable that the DVD player has picked up some dust on the laser lens.   You can clear it with a proprietary DVD/CD lens cleaning disk.

Technical Help / Re: "Not Responding"
« on: Thursday 06 December 12 11:16 GMT (UK)  »
Could the problem be due to slow speeds to your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Like here the servers (computers) are miles away from your local locations, the communication can take time to respond.

What ?   Internet signals travel at the speed of light, which is 186,282 miles per second !  :)

Windows will put a "Not responding" tag on any Window which doesn't get a response to a command within a finite time stipulated by Windows itself.  Sometimes this can be caused by communications problems, sometimes it's because your computer is overwhelmed doing too many background tasks, sometimes it's because your hard drive isn't handling data fast enough (needs defragging ?), and sometimes it can be a hardware or driver problem.

You should reboot your router once a week (not any more than that).  If you don't, you can get a less-than-acceptable connection.  I'll hold back on the technical reasons  ;)
