Technical Help / Re: Windows XP
« on: Saturday 01 December 12 10:31 GMT (UK)  »
I suspect you have the Home Edition of Windows 7, because the Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate editions all have the facility to download some extra programs which allow programs written in XP to run in 'compatability mode'.

There is a free utility called VMWare Player, which allows you to run virtual operating systems on a PC.  I use this to run an XP program inside Windows 7, but it does load the processor chip in the PC quite highly, which could cause less powerful machines to struggle a bit.

Another theory is that it could be a variant of LUFF.

I'm sorry if my first post seemed rather unfriendly, but some of these forums are actually scams to get your login details.  This one seems genuine enough, but I still wouldn't risk it.

Sorry, but I wouldn't want to access any forum that insists on my joining before I can see what it's all about  :-\

Bearing in mind that your answer to questions about your religion could severely affect your life expectancy in those days, I'm not sure you can rely on any accuracy for this sort of data.   Let's not forget that before the reign of Henry VIII the whole country was Catholic, and the methods used to 'convert' people were pretty abhorrent.

Not sure that you could call 20% 'high' ?  :)

I think what the map fails to show was that in East Anglia, there weren't that many Protestants either  ;D

UK law was a bit 'grey' in this area, but began to be tightened up as death rates from abortions grew.

Maybe if you found the woman in the census, it might throw a little more light on her circumstances ?

Could have been a case of Puerperal fever (otherwise known as 'Childbed Fever') caused by the use of dirty instruments and linen.  This usually occurs 10 to 14 days after the birth of an infant, but I suppose it could affect abortions too.
