Surrey Lookup Requests / Matthew Bryant b.1873
« on: Friday 10 September 10 15:49 BST (UK)  »
In my grandfather's army records (Boer war) his next of kin are his siblings (both parents having died in the 1880's) and one of them named Matthew is stated as being an elder brother....he never appeared in the 1881 census with the rest of the family but a Matthew Bryant does appear in the 1901 and 1911 census and this is he.....

Does anyone have the resources to tell me who this individual's father is by the marriage listed below or by his christianing if indeed he was christianed?

The Common Room / Marriage act of 1929...info that I never knew
« on: Sunday 17 January 10 09:22 GMT (UK)  »
Something I never knew (plenty of that around)

Age of marriage act of 1929
Minimum age of marriage raised to 16.....prior to the act of 1929 you could marry at the age of 12 if you were female and 14 if you were male although in practice marrying at these sort of ages rarely happened!
