Shropshire Lookup Requests / Leese (1870-1900)
« on: Wednesday 30 May 07 14:58 BST (UK)  »
William Thomas Leese (1870) is my Great Uncle.  His wife is Phoebe ? (Would like Phoebe's maiden name).  Their children are: William (1893);  Percy (1895);  Sarah (1896;  Ethel (1898) and Alfred (1900).  My Great Uncle was born supposedly in Donnington Wood, but could be surrounding areas.

Any information one could provide would be greatly appreciated.  I look forward to a contact.

So very very strange as I am reading these posted messages.  My maiden name was "Muir".  On my father's side my ancestral roots are in Scotland.

My great grandfather was James Muir.  He was born Jan. 6, 1826 in Kilmarnock, Ayreshire, Scotland.  He died Mar. 11, 1910 in Canada.  My great grandmother was Jane Maxwell.  She was born June 2, 1836 in Scotland.  She died Dec/ 18, 1927 in Canada.  Jane was the daughter of Hugh Maxwell.  I do not know her mother's name.

Thought I would pass this on.

Have I made a connection?  Please understand I am an old but "young old" senior.  I have just joined this Site and saw Springfield House and the mention of Louisa Humpherson.  I was more than excited and to be truthful, I didn't have a clue who I was contacting.

Louisa and my grandmother, Julia are sisters.  My grandmother, Julia (Humpherson) Leese worked as a young woman at "Springfield House" when it was a school for girls.  Granny was house-mother.  Granny Leese was married in  1896 so it would be prior to 1896.

I have heard from  Eileen, and possibly that is who I contacted first.

I will give you my e-mail if you would like the personal touch

I am researching my Lee"Lees/Leese family.  John - no birth, married Katherine Summerfield Aug.24, 1731 in Newport.  Children: Mary; Rebecca; Elizabeth; John; Richard; Samuel; Anne; Thomas; William.  All children were born in Newport, Shropshire

I have sent a message previously.  Don't know as I did it correctly since I am a new member.

Regarding Springfield House and Louisa Humpherson.  Louisa was a sister to my grandmother Julia (Humpherson) Leese.  Grandmother, Julia worked as a young woman at Springfield House, when it was a girls' school and my grandmother was house-mother.  Louisa and Julia were daughters of Thomas & Mary (Hotchkiss) Humpherson.  Other members of the family were: Daniel, married to Sarah Deakin; Emily, married to John Leese; (1st. Alice, died as a child; Amelia married to John Harris:  Mary Elizabeth married to Joseph Hayward;  2nd Alice married to Joseph Dyson;  John T.; Aaron.  Great Aunt Louisa married James Edwards.  Two of their children( a boy and a girl) died at a young age, then there were Alice, Jessie, Walter and Mary. Mary married Wilfred Henshall.  I don't know if my previous message has reached the right party because of me not really knowing how the Site worked, but I look forward to a contact.

Hi Celia

Thanks for your reply. My g.grandmother was Louisa Humpherson (from Shropshire) - I know she would have been employed in some capacity at Springfield House rather than a houseowner. I have been trawling through the 1881 census enumeration districts to try and find the occupants but it's never ending! I'd be grateful for any help you can offer.

Best wishes, Fairlane
