Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Re: Ellen Hughes - dating of photo

Hi Gadget, I don't have access to the back of the card unfortunately, but I can ask for this to be checked.

Millipede,

Yes, Hughes was her Maiden name. I'm not sure if she married or not as of yet.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Ellen Hughes - dating of photo
« on: Tuesday 27 October 20 00:26 GMT (UK)  »
Evening,

I would greatly appreciate any help in dating the attached photo please.

It is titled 'Ellen Hughes' and I believe her to be the sister of my Great, great grandfather. She was born in 1861.

I'm thinking she must be about 30 perhaps in this photo, which would place it as having been taken c.1890.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Thanks.

Having looked at it again,  I had missed the continuation below.

The text entry for place of residence states ‘Emo and Ballintogher’ these being two separate places as has been pointed out.

On the presumption that the marriage took place in the bride’s parish, this may indicate that Loughlin was from Emo, and Anne from Ballintogher.

They appeared to live in Ballintogher after their marriage, as their first born was born there.

I think that this solves this :)

Hi all,

The attached clip is a segment of the 1846 marriage of my x 3 Great grandparents Loughlin Hughes and Anne Dunne, which took place in Portarlington.

It states that Loughlin's place of residence was (interpreted as) 'Emo and Ballintogher', which rings true, however I'm struggling to decipher Anne's place of residence.

Any assistance is much appreciated thanks.

Lancashire / Re: A family mystery....any advice?

Hi all,

Had quite forgotten about this enquiry given the time that has passed since my initial post.

However, just to update the thread, I did indeed find out about my Dad's uncle James Cuddy, and it was quite a sad discovery.

On the death if their mother in 1927 aged 47, five years after their father died (officially Bronchitis, but suspect more likely as a result of gas poisoning) aged 43, the younger children were all split up between the elder children, apart from James.

He was admitted to Blackburn Whalley in 1927 aged 10.

He remained there until his death aged 51. I have no idea if he was ever visited, and none of my surviving aunties/uncles can confirm this either.

I have located a reference to his medical records, but they are unavailable for release for some time owing to the date of the last set of records being some time after.

Was quite shocking for everyone to disover this, as they'd all been told he died in 1927...the year he was admitted!

Dark family secrets...  >:(

Lancashire Lookup Requests / 1939 Register Lookup request - Nora Hilda Gaffney
« on: Tuesday 14 March 17 11:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone with access would be kind enough to provide me with any details featured within the 1939 Register entry for one Norah Hilda Gaffney.

The site I am currently subscribed to does not have this collection.

Her son, Laurence. E. Gaffney is also listed within the entry from what the preview says.

I'm particularly interested in the place of residence. I am expecting it to a public house in the Edge Hill area of Liverpool.

Any help much appreciated!

Paul

Bumblebee,

Is Luke stated as 'Deceased'?

Thanks Bumblebee.

Can I ask who the witnesses were please?

I was anticipating you saying Luke was a Mariner, but not both...
