Ireland / Require help with 'Clisham' element of my family tree...!!
« on: Tuesday 12 June 07 13:07 BST (UK)  »
Afternoon All,

Not long been researching the family tree (2 months), but have a number of lines that hail from Ireland. At present, tring to gain info and work backwards from the following set of great, great grandparents:

John Clisham (Born 1843, Died September 1894, Liverpool)   and Ellen Clisham (Nee Glue - Born 1858). Both were Irish. Unfortunately, don't have much more info than that, other than two of their children were born Ireland, these being:

Sarah 1879 (Dublin)

Mary Ellen 12th Feb, 1880 (Curragh Camp), Kildare (My Great grandmother)

They had relocated to Liverpool by 1891, as on that Census.

Also had an elder son William John, born in St. Helier, Jersey in 1878, who died in Liverpool in 1899.

Any help, however small would be greatly appreciated...

Regards

Paul

Shropshire / Anybody able to assist in a certificate transcription please??
« on: Sunday 10 June 07 13:17 BST (UK)  »
Afternoon,

I was wondering if anybody might be able to help in transcribing a small element of a birth certificate that I recently ordered.

I'm trying to determine the maiden name of my great, great, great grandmother Elizabeth Cuddy (1803ish - 1873). It appears to be a four letter surname, ending, it would appear, with an 'f', preceded by an 'o', however, the quality is not very good.

How do I stand in terms of copyright if I was to scan and post an image of the certificate on-line?

Obviously, I could order a second birth cert of another of her children, but I might end up with the same problem!

She was born in the Whitchurch area of Shropshire, if that's of any help!

Regards

Paul

How do I make the most out of this info?! Is the information contained within the Roll available online anywhere? Any pointers would be appreciated!!

Glamorganshire / Help with the family name: Bennett
« on: Tuesday 29 May 07 22:25 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I was wondering if anybody could offer any help or advice...

I've not been researching my family tree all that long...about two months, but I've not done too bad, and have managed to identify all lines of my family back to the 5th Generation, and some back to the 6th. However I'm somewhat stuck on the line with the above surname.

I'm really struggling to obtain any real info on my Great-grandfather Joseph Bennett, born in 1895/6, and can't seem to find a likely entry in the 1901 Wales Census. My family know very little, other than he was born in Wales, Swansea to be precise and "he lived by 'The Mumbles'.

I've sucessfully obtained a copy of his marriage certificate from 1920 to Mary Hughes (From Liverpool), which confirms his approximate age and his relocation to Liverpool. It also states that he was a Ship Maker's Labourer, and that his father was also Joseph Bennett, a Steel Worker.

Furthermore, he fought in, and survived WW1, and I've not had any luck in finding his details on the War Pension Database. He was however poisoned by Mustard Gas, which left him in ill health until his death around about 1930ish.

I would have thought that this was quite a decent amount of information from which to find something more than I actually have!!

Any ideas on any other avenues I can pursue?!
