I too have to say that I'm firmly in the 'put them on the back burner' camp as opposed to giving up.
I have a number of mysteries within various lines of my ancestry, and as frustrating as these brick walls are, it has to be said that they have generated some of the most interesting lines of attempted research along the way.
Despite the frustration that such unresolved lines can bring, I personally feel that they have been the lines that have significantly improved my researching skills, as they have forced me to think 'outside the box'.
That said, sometimes, a break is equally as good a thing as it allows you to clear your mind of that fog that often descends when you're trying so hard to find a way forward (or back perhaps I should say).
Only recently I re-visited a line I had abandoned actively researching, and lo and behold, a new piece of information had found its way online...a little detail admittedly, but just a little something else to add the picture.
