Lancashire Lookup Requests / 1939 Register Lookup request - Nora Hilda Gaffney
« on: Tuesday 14 March 17 11:16 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone with access would be kind enough to provide me with any details featured within the 1939 Register entry for one Norah Hilda Gaffney.

The site I am currently subscribed to does not have this collection.

Her son, Laurence. E. Gaffney is also listed within the entry from what the preview says.

I'm particularly interested in the place of residence. I am expecting it to a public house in the Edge Hill area of Liverpool.

Any help much appreciated!

Paul

Bumblebee,

Is Luke stated as 'Deceased'?

Thanks Bumblebee.

Can I ask who the witnesses were please?

I was anticipating you saying Luke was a Mariner, but not both...

Hi,

I would be grateful if someone could provide me with the details of the following marriage please:

14 December 1875, St. Nicolas and St. Annes.

GROOM: James Jordan
SPOUSE:    Margaret Black
GROOM'S FATHER: Luke Jordan
BRIDE'S FATHER: John Black

I am specifically interested in the Groom's Father's calling please.

Thanks

Paul

Armagh / Re: Upper Killeavy parish records
« on: Sunday 13 March 16 20:00 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Shelley,

Ancestry has recently uploaded the following repository of records:

Ireland, Catholic Parish Records, 1655-1915

Parish records for Killeavy Upper are included, starting from 1832 as previously stated. These are currently free to search via the English version of the site throughout March.

I will see what I can find for you.

The Common Room / Re: Who have you given up on :)

I too have to say that I'm firmly in the 'put them on the back burner' camp as opposed to giving up.

I have a number of mysteries within various lines of my ancestry, and as frustrating as these brick walls are, it has to be said that they have generated some of the most interesting lines of attempted research along the way.

Despite the frustration that such unresolved lines can bring, I personally feel that they have been the lines that have significantly improved my researching skills, as they have forced me to think 'outside the box'.

That said, sometimes, a break is equally as good a thing as it allows you to clear your mind of that fog that often descends when you're trying so hard to find a way forward (or back perhaps I should say).

Only recently I re-visited a line I had abandoned actively researching, and lo and behold, a new piece of information had found its way online...a little detail admittedly, but just a little something else to add the picture.

Having been researching my own family history since 2007, I set about helping a work colleague start hers off a couple of years ago.

Needless to say she quickly got the hang of things and was off on her own steam...

One day about a year ago or so she came over to me to show me a copy of the 1911 Census relating to her Great grandmother. The address jumped out at me straight away...as it was the very same house my own Great great grandparents were residing at twenty years previously in 1891... :)

So, a lack of records does not necessarily indicate that he stopped sailing, merely that he did not adhere to the ticketing system...I get it.
