Cheers Blue,

I've just bitten the bullet and for 3 downloaded a copy of the Title Deeds for the property I'm interested in and it says that the land was sold to the developer in 1907.

I trying to link a WW1 death penny that was found in the house when my parents renovated it in the mid-1970's.

Have located a likely candidate on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website who was killed in France, 1916 - his next of kin (father) stated as living half a mile or so away at the time they were arranging headstones etc.

Only two soldiers with the same name from Liverpool listed on CWGC it would seem.

Bit of a needle in a haystack exercise but I'm going to see if I can succeed.

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help?

I am trying to find out when the houses on Maiden Lane, Clubmoor (L13) were constructed, in particular, the run of houses between Finvoy Road and Knocklaid Road (OS E338100 N383205)

From available historic maps I have been able to narrow it down to sometime between 1905 and 1925, as the later map shows a significant increase in property development compared to the much more rural nature of the 1905 map, and features the block of houses in question.

Any information would be greatly appreciated!  :)

Thank you Rena,

I had actually forgotten about that site...been a bit inactive on the research front of late!

I suspect it is more likely to be No. 2, as in 'one who marks out land'.

Afternoon,

I have located an 1837 entry within the 'Reports from Committees, Fictitious Votes (Ireland), Select Committee on Fictitious Votes, 1837-1838' record set on FindMyPast in respect of an ancestor where he is listed within the section subtitled 'Register of Marksmen'.

I would be grateful if someone might be able to advise the context in which the term 'Marksmen' is used here please. Is it, as I am thinking a marksman as in a sharpshooter?

1871 England Census (Cl: RG10; Pc: 3816; Fo: 39; Pg: 21; GSU roll: 841912)

Victoria ???, Netherfield Road North, Everton, Lancs

Name                  Rel           Age   DOB          Cond.      Occ.                         B#place
Robert McAdam    Head        27    c 1844           M      Fireman aboard ship     Port William, Scot

John                    Son            6    c 1865           -            do                               "         "
Margaret  C          Dau            1    c 1870           -            -                                 "         "
James Allen          Visitor       18    c 1853         Un      Police Man                   London, Middlesex

I then also have the following TWO marriages:

28 June 1868 St. Peter, Everton

Name                Age          Cond.  Rank/Prof        Res.                    Father               Father Prof
Robert McAdam (Aged 26)  Bach   Marine Stoker  41 Edinburgh St   James McAdam   Farm Lab
Christina Roberts (Aged 27)Wid                          18 Edinburgh St   Mathew Johnston  Stone Mason

15 Apr 1861, St. David, L'pool, Lancs

Name                    Age      Cond.       Rank/Prof     Res.        Father              Father Prof
John Roberts          Full      Bachelor   Fireman       L'pool  Robert Roberts      Porter
Christina Johnston Full        Spinster         -           L'pool  Mathew Johnston   Stone Mason

There are four apparent births/baptisms arising from this Roberts/Johnston marriage recorded in L'pool, with baptisms relating to children named John and Sarah that appear to be the same John and Sarah that are down as John and Sarah McAdam on the 1871 Census return headed by Robert McAdam.

There are also a few deaths recorded for John Roberts' within the L'pool area between 1861 and 1868.

Between 1868 and 1871 I have located a number of Crew Lists for Glasgow-registered ships that have a Robert McAdam, who is a Fireman, (DOB c. 1843), with place of birth stated as Wigton, Scotland, who sailed aboard the 'Russia' (Official No. 58132) and the signatures on each of these crew list agreement appears to be the same as the signature on the 1868 McAdam/Roberts marriage, leading me to believe it is the same man.

My research now switches to Scotland. Having searched the available Scottish vital records, there are two birth records for a Robert McAdam:

Date             Name                 Parents                                    Ref                     Reg
06/06/1841  McAdam Robert   James McAdam/Marion Clement FR836 (FR836) M Ochiltree/Ayr

15/08/1842  McAdam Robert  James McAdam/Marion Clement  FR421 (FR421) M Penninghame/     Wigtown

Then there's a preceding marriage between a James McAdam and a Marion Clement as follows:

21/07/1835 James McAdam and Marion Clement /883 (FR883) M OCHILTREE /AYR

It would appear that the Robert born in Ochiltree in 1841 has died and a second son born the following year has been named after him. I have also located a couple of other likely baptisms of children born to  a James and Marion McAdam, but in different places, each one tying in with the following family, who appear here on the 1861 Scotland Census:

1861 Midkelton Dairy House, Kelton, Kirkcudbrightshire

Name                 Rel     Status    Gen   Age  Birth  Occ           Birth place

James McAdam    Head    M        M      50    1811  DairyMan, Carsphairn,Kirkcudbrightshire,
Marion McAdam   Dau    Un        F      16    1845   Scholar    Wigtownshire, Scot
Anne Wilson McAdam         Dau  F       13    1848   do                  "              "
James Allan McAdam Son           M      11    1850   do           Borgue, Kirkcudbrightshire
John McAdam           Son            M       8    1853   do           Kirkcudbright,    "
Nicholas McAdam Dau                 F       5    1856   do            Kelton,              "
George M McAdam Son               M       3    1858 Dairyman's Son Kelton,        "
Martha Wilson      Serv     Un       F      18   1843 Dairy Maid  Kirkmaiden, Wigtownshire

And that's it thus far!

Scotland / McAdam family in Dumfriesshire/Ayreshire - how to progress? 1/2
« on: Thursday 04 June 15 14:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I would be grateful if anyone could look at my findings so far in relation to the above, as I have reached a point where I could do with an outside perspective to see if I'm on the right track as I've not had cause to venture into the Scottish records previously.

It's quite a read, but I'd be thankful for any input...!

Tracing the ancestry of Alexander McAdam (b. Liverpool 1880, d. Liverpool 1940), I have his family residing in Liverpool from 1911 back to 1871 c/o his parents - Robert and Christina McAdam (formerly Roberts, nee Johnston).

Hi,

Am trying to digest this, what with the apparent name change of Ellen Malissa to 'Mary Ellen'.

However, have located this in the mean time:

Joseph Peva, bachelor of full age, ship carpenter of Peamans St m (banns) Ann McCarthy sp of full age of Peamans St 2 Mar 1863 St Matthias, Liverpool.
Fathers' names: William Peva, Farmer and John McCarty, Stevador

Note: See you mentioned this in your earlier post Shaun...
