Scotland / McAdam family in Dumfriesshire/Ayreshire - how to progress? 1/2
« on: Thursday 04 June 15 14:26 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I would be grateful if anyone could look at my findings so far in relation to the above, as I have reached a point where I could do with an outside perspective to see if I'm on the right track as I've not had cause to venture into the Scottish records previously.

It's quite a read, but I'd be thankful for any input...!

Tracing the ancestry of Alexander McAdam (b. Liverpool 1880, d. Liverpool 1940), I have his family residing in Liverpool from 1911 back to 1871 c/o his parents - Robert and Christina McAdam (formerly Roberts, nee Johnston).

Hi,

Am trying to digest this, what with the apparent name change of Ellen Malissa to 'Mary Ellen'.

However, have located this in the mean time:

Joseph Peva, bachelor of full age, ship carpenter of Peamans St m (banns) Ann McCarthy sp of full age of Peamans St 2 Mar 1863 St Matthias, Liverpool.
Fathers' names: William Peva, Farmer and John McCarty, Stevador

Note: See you mentioned this in your earlier post Shaun...

In relation to the 1881 Bootle census return:

England, Select Marriages, 1538–1973

Caroline Peva, Age:18 (Birth Date:1859)
Marriage Date:1 Oct 1877
Marriage Place: St. Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
Father:Henry Peva
Spouse:John Howard

Shame there's no image available to show us who the witnesses were...

Further to the 1881 Bootle, Lancs census return, I have just located the following possible 1871 return, recorded in the parish of Trevor Ucha, Merionethshire, Wales:

RG10/PC5682/F90/PG20 Trevor Square.

Robert Hughes Thomas      Head - M 44 1827 - Montgomeryshire, Wales
Ann Hughes Thomas          Wife -  F  40 1831 - Denbighshire, Wales
Mary Hughes Thomas        Dau -   F  14 1857 - Montgomeryshire, Wales
Robert Hughes Thomas      Son -  M    8 1863 - Montgomeryshire, Wales
Elizth Ann Hughes Thomas Dau -  F     0 1871 - Denbighshire, Wales

A possibility...

Ahh....Shaun,

That has to be them...Pever/Peva and what with Robert being a Joiner's Apprentice.

That could be Florence I guess Liz, although, based on the 1881 return Shaun has just highlighted, would expect Richard to be from Wales...or not I if they were a mobile family?

If that IS Florence with uncle Richard in 1891 then I guess I need to be looking for the rest of the family possibly together without her.

Have trawled through both Ancestry and FindMyPast in respect of any census returns pre-1901 (as the return posted by Liz is the parentless children) and find nothing :(

It is also quite possible, given that the Thomas/Peva marriage was not registered until the final quarter of 1881 that they are living separately on the 1881 Census. However, have had no luck in locating apparent entries for either :/

Have to be missing something!
