Florence - 22 April 1883
Minnie - 23 April 1887
Joseph - 17 March 1885
Lily - 21 March 1889

Hi. Wow...I wasn't expecting such a flurry of activity on this so soon!!!

Okay...apologies as my initial posting, having re-read it wasn't that clear on Robert's name, which was Robert Hughes Thomas.

This Florence definitely married Alexander McAdam in 1907, and her age on the 1911 Census implies a birth year of 'abt 1883' and I know she was from Bootle. I also know that she had a sister Lillie which would tie in with the baptism that has been located (same residence, father's name and trade too).

I wonder if they had been orphaned pre- 1901.

Hi,

Can anyone  help me locate Florence Beatrice Thomas and her family on the available census returns please?

She was born on the 22nd April 1883 in 4 Tattersall Place, Bootle, Lancashire to parents Robert Hughes and Mary Ellen Thomas (nee Peva) and was baptised at St. Peter, Liverpool on the 21 May 1883. Both the birth certificate and baptism record state that Robert was a Joiner by trade.

Robert and Mary Ellen appear to have married in 1881, by virtue of a matching marriage (Registrar in attendance so presuming Catholic).

They had a daughter Elizabeth Ann, baptised at St. Peter, Liverpool on 22 April 1882 (born 21 March) and a daughter Minnie Louisa, also born in Tattersall Place, Bootle on the 23 April 1887.

Florence married Alexander McAdam at St. Mary, Kirkdale in 1907, and was residing in 28 Hector Street, Kirkdale by the time of the 1911 Census with Alexander and their two children Florence Christina and Ann Jane, with the census stating she was from ‘Bootle, Lancs’ [Source Ref: Class: RG14; Piece: 22481]

Working back from here I can find no obvious trace of them and would be very grateful for any assistance please!

Hi,

Richard and Bella had six children between 1870 and 1887.

I have a copy of the birth certificate of Arthur Tyrrell, who was born in 1887. This atates that the mother was 'Isabella Tyrrell, formerly Headley'

I also the transcription of a further two children; these being:

http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Manchester/Hulme/ststephen/index.html

Baptism: 1 Jan 1871 St Stephen, Hulme, Lancs.
James Terrol - [Child] of Richard Terrol & Annabella
Born: 10 Aug 1870
Abode: 3 Fern Court Hulme
Occupation: Boiler Maker
Baptised by: Richard Adams
Register: Baptisms 1865 - 1878, Page 58, Entry 454
Source: LDS Film 2357333

(This address matches the abode of the family the following year in 1871, where she is named simply 'Bella (sic)'.

THen we have the following entry:

England, Select Births and Christenings, 1538-1975

Name: Mary Emma Tyrrell
Gender: Female
Baptism Date: 25 Jul 1875
Baptism Place: St. Bartholomew, Salford, Lancashire, England
Father: Richard Tyrrell
Mother: Arabella
FHL Film Number: 1786460
Reference ID: item 5 p 143

Finally, there is an entrie for the following Tyrrell birth on the following site with the mother's maiden name stated as being 'Headley':

Lancashire Birth indexes for the years: 1878 [http://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/cgi/birthind.cgi]

Surname Forename(s)   Sub-District   Registers At   Mother's Maiden Name Reference
TYRRELL Richard           Blackburn      Blackburn      HEADLEY

All of these chiildren can be found living with Richard and Bella.

Having just looked at these births listed as such, it does seem that they moved around a fair bit initially...

Whilst this apears to be THE marriage, and with nothing else coming close in terms of a match (although I'm surprised at the location), The only niggle I have is the variation in 'Bella's' name.

She is down as 'Bella' on all of the relevant census returns, 'Arabella' on two of their children's baptism records and on her 1918 death record, and 'Isabella' on the birth certificate of another child!

Granted, they're all variations on the same name...so am I just being fussy here??  :-\

Hi Pauline,

Yes, I have seen that one, but discounted it as I have (from memory) located them in subsequent census returns...
