New Zealand Completed Requests / Burial locator details-COMPLETED
« on: Saturday 05 March 11 00:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi There

Lyla died in Pio Pio about in either January 1990 or 1991.
Pio Pio isn't online so I was wondering if anyone would be able to find her on the burial locator and whether this may include funeral director details. This may help with parents details.

Also Leonard Linsley Freeman he died 1988 Greytown, Wairarapa.

Both would have been born early 1900. Leonard was Lyla's first husband.

Thank you

Regards

New Zealand Completed Requests / General question on women in NZ-Completed
« on: Tuesday 09 November 10 08:49 GMT (UK)  »
Hi There

At what age is a woman considered a spinster in the 1950's I'm guessing it would be of a age to be legally married but am not sure. Not sure what the legal age of marriage is either ;D

I have a woman who was born under one surname (mothers maiden name) travelled to NZ under the fathers name and had the use of another name. In the early 1900's would it have been possible for her to have used any of the 3 names to marry here in NZ or would she have had to use the name on her birth certificate. She didn't come over with her parents.

New Zealand Completed Requests / 2 in 1 Expressman and Clutha district "Completed"
« on: Sunday 31 October 10 01:44 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all

Would anyone know what an expressman was here in NZ, late 1800's. I am imaging it would be like a modern day courier. I had thought that perhaps it was to do with the railway but found mention on Papers past that an expressman driving along the road knocked someone off their cycle.

Also has anyone had any dealings with the Clutha District Council. I need to find some burial details plot/row/etc asap, as a fello Kiwi is in the district and is prepared to take photos of headstones for me:) at balclutha.
I just wondered how effecient they are. I know here that if the detailas aren't on the immediate databaseit can take some time to work through written records.
Thanks

New Zealand Completed Requests / Jockey's *Completed*
« on: Saturday 30 October 10 08:33 BST (UK)  »
Hi there

I have discovered that one of my ancestors was a jockey here in NZ. I know he arrived in Auckland in 1926 and was still a child at the time. I don"t know if he stayed in Auckland or moved elsewhere in the country. What I would like to know, is it possible to find records on past jockeys in NZ.

Cheers

Australia Lookups completed / Jane Scott BETT-part two *Completed*
« on: Saturday 30 October 10 08:04 BST (UK)  »
Hi There

I have a Jane Bett who I can't find records for in NZ after 1952. In 1952 her sister Helen dies, her last relation that I know of in NZ.  Because I can't find her here in the country, I am wondering if she may have travelled to Australia.
Jane Scott Bett born 1902 Scotland. Lucy on the NZ boards may have found possible immigration for Jane and her sister Helen.  Helen may have travelled to Melbourne in 1924 before coming to NZ. Jane may have come to NZ in 1927. Helen and Jane have a brother-David. I have found a
David b 1896 travelling from London to Melbourne in 1920. Other than birth I have no other details for David.
I have looked for Janes return to Scotland but haven't found her. To my knowledge she was still a spinster, as is mentioned on her sisters probate. The part that confuses me is the mention of a child in Helen's funeral notcie who appears to be a niece. I cant find a birth for her in NZ.
