Have a look at RG9/486/126/2

It shows John's age as 67 but otherwise looks possible.

John Skinner 67
Eliza Skinner 56
Thomas Skinner 24
Ester Skinner 19
George Skinner 17
Emily Skinner 8

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Re: Isaac Foss - Beaulieu

Hi Nell,

Thanks for looking. I found one of the transcriptions on the Hampshire OPC Project website: http://www.knightroots.co.uk/transcriptions/Parishes_B/Beaulieu/Marriages/marriages.htm, which I imagine is probably linked somewhere on RootsChat.

The handwriting must be very poor, judging by some of the transcriptions. IsaacFoss (if indeed it is he!) is interpreted as "Juane? Fop", and in fact this is under Marriage Banns (11th Oct 1795) which would explain at least one of the alternative dates I have. There are also several entries for the name "Pufs" which I suspect may actually be Foss, written with the old long "s", ie. "Fofs" . . . unless anyone knows better  :-\

I'm still struggling with my Foss ancestors at Beaulieu. I now have 3 different marriage date transcriptions for Isaac Foss and Sarah Holley: 11th, 13th and 30th Oct 1795  ???

Does anyone have access to the original registers, or know where I can get copies? I'd love to find out more about Isaac's ancestors, who I'm led to believe may have come from France originally.

Just got home and couldn't wait to see what had been done with my latest photo. And I couldn't go to bed without thanking everyone who worked on it.

It would be hard to fault any of the results, but I'm torn between Caz and JC for the one to print and frame, because I love the colours . . . . I may have to do both.

Thanks again to everyone. I'll see what else I can come up with . . .  ;)

Thanks for those . . . quality as always  :)

One of these days I'll get to grips with Paintshop and maybe participate myself . . . meanwhile I really appreciate your efforts.

Just found this early 1900s photo of my great aunts. It's almost too cute . . . but they're family  ;)

Would someone like to have a go at cleaning it up and maybe colour it?

Thanks for clearing that up Nell. Yet another phrase I hadn't heard before, so I'm glad I asked . . . it's quite a humbling experience joining RootsChat with it's wealth of collected knowledge. Family tree research can be a solitary pursuit at times, apart from the inevitable family chats, and even those can raise frustrating questions like "why are you doing this?" . . . . .   :o

Note: base born 20 Apr 1826.  Surname now Fauce.  Mother now married but not to the father.

Does anyone agree that it was probably originally "Note: bast", indicating that Herbert was illegitimate ?

I puzzled for a while before the light dawned . . .    :-\

Thanks Nell,

I had those down as the birth dates, courtesy of someone else's GEDCOM file . . . wish people wouldn't do that. I always try to say if I'm uncertain about any data I share.

Guess I hardly need to say it wasn't a RootsChat member . . .  ;D
