The Common Room / Re: Elizabeth Lampard
« on: Monday 20 August 07 10:25 BST (UK)  »
Hi Pam,
Sorry those individuals are not my relatives.
My family of Lampards all came from Kent area. The family census I am looking at is 1861 Class RG9/4 Folio 73 Pg 68 This shows Elizabeth age 12 (niece) Matilda age 24, William age 25 (policeman) and William J age 2.
Incidentally, I found an 1841 census record for a Matilda Lampard class HO107 Piec 457 Book 13 ED 5 Folio 31 Pg 8 Line 23 but cannot find anything in 1851 census.

The Common Room / Elizabeth Lampard

I am currently researching the Lampard family and have found an 1861 census which shows Elizabeth Lampard as the niece of William and Matilda Roberts. My first thought was that Matilda's maiden name was Lampard. However, the only marriage record I can find is for William and Matilda Brandom Sept 1852 at Bethnal Green.  William and Matilda are in their early 20s so I would have thought it unlikely that Matilda was married before.
Any ideas?

Hi Bearkat
Just thought I'd let you know that I managed to get into that site you gave me yesterday. There are several records that may be of interest to me so I guess the next move would be to go to Hampshire Records office to view them. Everything appears to be on microfiche so that will be an experience in itself!
Thanks for your help

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Henry Lampard born 1823
« on: Sunday 19 August 07 17:05 BST (UK)  »
Well, if i thought I was in trouble yesterday, I am in deep doo doo today!

You may remember that I mentioned the information about this family on familysearch.org had been submitted by a private individual, rather than obtained through official records. The lady who submitted the information lives in Australia and I was able to contact her through a mutual cousin.
This lady is a direct descendant of "my" Henry and she has confirmed that he is the son of Henry Lampard and Sarah Rogers, along with the other siblings we had already identified. Apparently Henry was born in 1822. So far, so good.
The sticking point is that she is also insistent that William Henry born in Malta 1823 is also a member of the same family. The copy of the family tree which was sent to me by William Henry's granddaughter shows he was married twice. Once to Eliza and then to Elizabeth. This seems to be borne out by census records on ancestry uk. However, if Eliza is actually Eliza Elvey then we know that the marriage certificate showed William Henry's father as different to the father of the other supposed siblings. What are the chances of two different William Henry Lampards being born in the same place in the same year and marrying a woman with the same first name?
How can I tell the Australian lady that she must have gone wrong somewhere? Apparently all of her
information is paper based and she is quite elderly so I do not want to upset her.
When I get any further info I will give you a further update. In the meantime, I'm off to take some
Valium to soothe my nerves! (only joking) :'( :(

Hi again bearkat,

I tried that link you gave me but there must be a problem with the site at the moment as I couldn't access it. I tried actually going in through Google rather than your link and it still wouldn't let me in.
But now that you've told me about it this is another avenue I can pursue. Thanks very much for the
tip.

Hi bearkat,
I found some will records on ancestry uk. Most of the information given in my posting was supplied
by another researcher who personally visited the parishes to view their records. He started his research in the days before online records and all of his research is paper based rather than gained through computer records.

I am currently researching the Cawte family and have traced them back to Richard Cawte who was born in Winchester in 1595 and obtained land in Upham 27 Sept 1604). He married Tomlinson Kinge at St Peter Cheesehill Winchester 4th May 1620.
They had at least 2 children, Richard (no date of birth known) and Robert baptised 27 Sept 1633 Upham. Nothing else known about Richard, but Robert married Ellen Barton 20 Oct 1663 in Upham and they had several children. Robert bap. 17 Jan 1665, Daniel no date of birth but buried 1700 Upham, Dorothy bap. 9 Apr 1678, Ellen bap. 25 Apr 1680, Mary bap.12 Dec 1686 and Richard bap.6 Nov 1674.
Of these children, I only know of two marriages. Ellen married James Purdey in Upham 9 Nov 1703. I don't know if they had any children.
Richard married Elizabeth Turner in Upham 18 July 1706 and had 4 children. Elizabeth bap. 30 May 1707, Richard bap 20 March 1709, Mary (no dates known) and Robert bap. 14 sept 1711. They were all born in Upham but Robert moved to Botley after his marriage to Elizabeth Blake in Winchester Cathedral 3 Oct 1742.
I would like to track down any missing marriages and/or their children. I have searched on LDS site familysearch.org but have been unable to get hold of any additional information.
If anyone can help me out I would be most grateful.
