Lancashire / Re: Sarah Littlewood - disappearing trick?
« on: Wednesday 16 March 16 00:43 GMT (UK)  »
By chance, I came across this question I had posed six years ago!

In fact i did find the answer, so just in case somebody comes across this thread while searching for "Swainson" or "Littlewood" .........

Sarah (Swainson) Littlewood b 1 Sep 1854 in Egton-cum-Newland, d 10 Dec 1926 in Prestwich, Manchester.

Mind you, I have still to trace what happened to her husband Joseph, who disappears between the 1881 and 1891 censuses!

Julie-Anne, you might be interested in getting in touch with the "One-Name Study" society that researches the Surman/Sermon/Sirman family name. You can read about them here:http://one-name.org/name_profile/sermon/

They publish a regular magazine called "The Pulpit" and you can join the society and get copies of the magazine by contacting the address at the foot of the article.

Canada Lookup Request / Re: Helen Denholm Will - Canadian Passenger Lists
« on: Friday 17 October 14 16:58 BST (UK)  »
I think I should just hand over my family tree to Sandra, sit back and let her get on with it!

Thank you so much.

Yes, the McGregor family at 103 Shore St, Fraserburgh in 1901 is indeed the family of Helen (Nellie).

My G-Grandfather John Simpson was the illegitimate son of Isabella Simpson, who subsequently married William Will. There was very little contact between the Simpson and Will descendants, and until now I knew nothing about the likes of William Patterson Dunlop (d 2011) and Frank Hatfield (d 2009) who were also descended from Isabella Simpson and were actually my second cousins. I suppose it illustrates the benefits of starting family history research early.  :(

If anyone is interested, following on from the tips to look in New Brunswick, I see that after Helen's death in 1944 Alexander remarried (in 1950) to Matilda Gertrude Baker.

That's so good of you all, I really appreciate it.

The tree branch for Helen's husband Alexander was missing and you've all grafted it back on again!

Many thanks.

Canada Lookup Request / Helen Denholm Will - Canadian Passenger Lists
« on: Friday 17 October 14 01:58 BST (UK)  »
If someone has access to Ancestry's Canadian Passenger Lists 1865-1935 (or equivalent) I would be very grateful for any information about a voyage apparently made by Helen Denholm WILL.

Helen (or Hellen/Nellie) Denholm McGregor was born in Aberdeenshire c1886 and married Alexander WILL in 1911.

If there were any other of the Will or McGregor/Macgregor family travelling with her that would also be of interest.

Any help appreciated.

Europe / Re: Death in Spain

Hi Guys - I'm back!

Thanks for bringing this thread to the top again, to be honest I had forgotten about it!

I eventually did track down my G-Grandmother, she came back to the UK and died in 1926. I was just starting out my family tree in 2008, and wasn't very familiar with where to find information of that period.

However, by pure coincidence I am going out to Ferrol in 3 weeks time, to look for the grave of my aunt and uncle, who died there as children in 1917 and 1918. I have got a photo of the grave and I've got their death registration and burial details from the local civil registration office, so here's hoping!

Thanks folks.

Other Countries / Re: Death Records in Argentina?

The best option in Argentina and Latin America is: https://certificaterecordslatam.com/, it is the Easiest, Quickest and Most Effective way to Obtain all Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates.

I started to answer the questions on this website but didn't submit the information as it wasn't clear (to me anyway) what costs were involved or how the information would be gathered and sent.

I'll bear it in mind for future research though, and any experiences that others have had with the site would be welcomed.

Aberdeenshire / Re: Parents of Isabella Gatt (born c 1815, Aberdour)?

Hi to nikandjb

I had stopped trying to unravel the Gatts of Pennan for a while as my head hurt too much, so I'm afraid I missed your reply.

I know I haven't got any further, and I wondered if you had managed somehow to develop a comprehensive tree showing how all the Gatts are connected. I'm not holding my breath ......
