Anglesey / Newborough census
« on: Friday 26 October 07 16:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm descended from a Roberts family (John Roberts, born c1832), living in Church Street, Tany Grisia, St Peter Newborough in 1841 census. I've found that the registration district is Caernarvon, rather than Anglesey. Can anyone tell me why?

Also, has anyone any info about the family or area at that time.

John

Lancashire / looking for a marriage
« on: Tuesday 25 September 07 18:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I'm looking for a marriage between a Thomas Smith and a Bridget (something) between 1861 and 1871.

I have Thomas (age22, unmarried, plate layer on the railway, b Dunham Massey) in 1861 as a boarder in ...Buildings, Church Place, Rainhill (Prescot).

In 1871 I have the family living at 17 Edgeware St, West Derby.
Thomas (33, railway labourer), Bridget (29, wife, b Ireland), Mary (7, b West Derby), Ellen (2, b West Derby) and Catherine (6mth, b West Derby).

I have looked at the following marriages -
Thomas Smith = Bridget Molloy (1856) - not the one
Thomas Smith = Bridget Noon (1863) - not the one
Thomas' father was Richard, the above marriages had a different father.

Free BMD came up with a possible marriage to Bridget Kelly in June 1864, but Certificate Services tell me that, although both were married on the same page, not to each other!

From the 1871 census, I assume the marriage was 1861 - 1864 and probably in the Liverpool area. Can anyone find any other options?

Thanks, John

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Walter Owen(s) - 1841/51 look-up Liverpool?
« on: Wednesday 05 September 07 16:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I'm looking for Walter Owen(s) in the 1841 and 1851 census.

I have him as Walter Owen in 1861 at Holmfield, Aigburth Rd, Garston, age 30, a coachman, with wife Margaret (age 29, b Mold) and baby Mary Elizabeth (10mth, b Crosby). The 1861 says he was born Gowgddelwarm, Wales (can't find it on Google!).

I'm pretty sure he married (as Walter Owens) in Liverpool in 1859 - trying to find his mum/dad and any siblings.

thanks, John

Flintshire Lookup Requests / Margaret Owens - Mold death 1867
« on: Monday 03 September 07 16:42 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Margaret, daughter of John and Mary Hughes of Gwernaffield died 6/6/1867 aged 34 (grave E67 Gwernaffield cemetery). Also on the headstone were Margaret's daughters Edith (d18/9/1869 age2 and Mary Elizabeth (d4/1/1881 age20), but no surnames, other than Hughes.

In the 1871 and 1881 census, Mary Hughes had two Owens children with her at Bryn Griffith Inn, Mold. Don't know who Mary's daughter Margaret married, but a Margaret Owens died in 1867 in Mold.

Would the death records have her maiden name? If so, can someone please look-up the death of Margaret Owens (1867, maybe 6th June) and see if she was the daughter of Mary Hughes.

Thanks, John

Flintshire / Jane Williams / JLSandgate
« on: Wednesday 29 August 07 21:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Just a longshot to contact 'Jane Williams / JLSandgate' who was enquiring about Mary Hughes - 1881 census at Byrn Griffith Inn, Mold in a Rootsweb thread in march 2003.

She was a ggrandaughter of Thomas Owens.

This Mary Hughes was my ggggrandmother, so if anyone knows who 'Jane Williams / JLSandgate' is, please get in touch (the e-mail she had in 2003 may be redundant now?)

Thanks, John

Anglesey Lookup Requests / Williams marriage 1844
« on: Friday 24 August 07 17:17 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I'm looking for the marriage of my gggrandad William Williams. He was born Conway 1818 and married a Margaret (Roberts?) from Bodedern, Anglesey. I have him 1851 as a rail labourer, back in Conway with wife Margaret (b Bodedern) and young family.

Their first child was born 1845, and a likely marriage would be to Margaret Roberts [Oct-Dec 1844, Anglesey]. Can't find the parish, but would suspect somewhere near Bodedern.

Before I order the cert, could I please ask for a look-up to see if it is the right one. I am expecting to find William Williams (age about 26, b Conway, occupation - railways?, father - Robert) marrying Margaret (age about 24-5, b Bodedern).

Thanks, John

Caernarvonshire / Williams family, Conway 1851 look-up
« on: Wednesday 22 August 07 14:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Can someone please look up this family in 1851 in Conway(?):

William Williams (age33, b Conway), Margret (32, wife, b Bodedern, Anglesey), Robert (6, b Conway), Thomas (4, b Conway) and Cathrin (1, b Conway).

I have them in Kingsland, Holyhead in the 1861 census (1851 ages and spelling based on 1861 census). Being on findmypast, I can't get the 1851 census.  William was a watchman in 1861 (whatever that entailed?)

Many thanks, John
