Warwickshire Lookup Requests / Family WOODCOCK
« on: Friday 15 June 07 18:12 BST (UK)  »
Parents:
William Woodcock (M, 1844-?) (Born Boston, Lincolnshire)
Emma Kezia Derrick (F, 1856-) (Born Birmingham)

Children:
Harriet I (F, 1873-1955)
George Frederick J (M, 1877-?)
Emily (F, 1879-?)
Mary/May Ann (F, 1883-?)
Francis Melville (M, 1883-?)
Edith Elsie (F, 1886-?)
Harold Beauchamp (M, 1889-?)
Leonard Victor (M, 1892-?)
Celestine Cyril (M, 1895) *My grandfather*

All children were born in Birmingham.

Their occupations (that I have listed) are plain jobs like portmanteau maker (Harriet), bicycle tyre maker (Mary/May & Emily) and errand boy (George)

Celestine lied about his age to sign up for WW1 and faught in Flanders.  While away fighting he discovered his mother had died and his family had scattered, he only ever found his eldest sister, Harriet. I think he won a medal for his fighting but this is unconfirmed. The only entries I have for them all is living in Birmingham in 1901.

The Lighter Side / What's the chance...?
« on: Friday 15 June 07 11:33 BST (UK)  »
Since I started researching my roots my main goal was to try and find out what happened to 7 of my grandfather's siblings. When he returned from WW1 to Birmingham he only ever found his eldest sister and he only knew that his mother (my Gtgrandmother) had died while he was off fighting at Flanders.

How much was Birmingham hit during the war? What I'm wondering is what are the chances of all 7 siblings being killed as a result of the war?

I can't find any trace of them except their births.

I never was any good at history at school and didn't learn much. The research I'm doing has taught me more about history and geography that I ever learnt at school.

Technical Help / MySQL database help required
« on: Wednesday 13 June 07 00:49 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone here have their family tree stored on their own website within a MySQL database they've set up?

I'd like to get one set up on my web space but I can't for the life of me think of how the database would be structured - what tables where and what fields to have in them. That sort of thing.

The problem is I've got a lot of relatives around the UK and I'd love for them to be able to see my progress without me having to mail them now and then. A year or two ago I started working on a website which had no user interaction on at all. I had originally planned to burn this onto CD and pass copies onto family members when I'd finished but it wasn't long before I realised that you don't really ever finish adding to it.

If anyone would be able to post a dump of their table structures I'd be most grateful.

Wiltshire Completed Lookup Requests / Warminster, BUTT, 1901
« on: Wednesday 30 May 07 22:47 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I hope someone can help me.

I'm trying to locate any information on an Olive Bethia BUTT (b.1887) who married a Sidney POND (m. Jun 1909)

I can find a record of Olive's birth and marriage but nothing else. I've hunted through ancestry.co.uk and familysearch.org.

I'm hoping someone will be able to find her in the 1901 census with her family so I can take it from there as I've just spent about 40 minutes entering data every which way I can think of.

Many thanks,

-Ivan.

Family History Programs, Tree Organisation, Presentation / Family Tree Maker
« on: Wednesday 30 May 07 18:45 BST (UK)  »
I've just installed the software and when I click on a button to search online it searches and hangs.

First I got the message that either the site is offline or I'm behind a firewall.

Anyone else having problems?

World War One / Assistance required re. Flanders, WW1
« on: Monday 13 November 06 09:38 GMT (UK)  »
My grandfather fought in Flanders during WW1 and was sent home due to an injury caused by shrapnel, we believe he was hit in the head although no serious damage was done.

Celestine Cyril Woodcock, born 1895 in Birmingham, lied about his age to sign up.

If anyone can point me in the right direction of places to look or would be able to check somewhere for me I'd be most grateful.

« on: Sunday 12 November 06 15:42 GMT (UK)  »
I've been sat here watching 4 hours of 24, my fiancee walks in from work with the News of the World newspaper. While flicking through it I noticed they are giving away one free download to commemorate Rememberance Sunday.

1. Log onto www.military-genealogy.com/freecredit
2. Register for free
3. Put the code "NOTW" in the promotion box
4. Search all records for free

Offer is valid until 19th November, 2006.

I hope this helps someone dig out some information.

I'm using the free version that came with the Independent last week and its great. Before I was using a shareware piece of software called Genopro.

In Genopro the default view was that which resembled a tree:

I've seen a relative using FTM to generate a tree like this from their family data and would like to know how its done...
