Hi Bellbird

Fellow RootsChatters have already provided much information for you on Zelda Floris CRANCH, and from the previous thread it can be seen that you have followed up on some of the leads which have been given.

Yes, it's worthwhile trying the Cambridge Library as Althea suggests, but if there is no birth notice available, then (as suggested before), the only way really, to solve this puzzle, is to purchase the birth certificate for Zelda.   :)

New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: KENNEDY

Believe Sarah was still alive May 1958.

Now ... I wonder if the Sarah SHEARER (nee KENNEDY), has perhaps been confused with the Sarah KENNEDY (nee SHEARER)  ???

At Ashburton Cemetery, there is also a burial for a "Sarah KENNEDY" - died 1969 aged 82 (bc 1887)  .... and a "Thomas KENNEDY - died 1974 aged 89 years (bc 1885).    They share Plot 1 -19 ... but of MOST interest, is that this plot was also purchased by "John SHEARER of Greenstreet" ...  in 1914 !!!

From the online Birth index :

1885 - SHEARER - Sarah Jane - parents:  Margaret and John

1885 - KENNEDY - Thomas - parents:  Mary and Hugh

Is it possible then, that the Sarah SHEARER who marries Thomas KENNEDY in 1920, is the daughter of John SHEARER and his first wife Margaret ?

AND  ... is this Thomas KENNEDY, the sister of John SHEARER's second wife, Sarah KENNEDY ???

(Hmm ... guess the marriage records will sort that out ? )    :D

1852 burial at Ashburton, Sarah is 67
http://www.adc.govt.nz/cemeteryRecords/indexs10.html

Just out of interest on searching a SARAH SHEARER marries a THOMAS KENNEDY in 1920..obviiously not yours given the children's ages   ....

Hi All   :)

Mmm ... yes, the Sarah SHEARER / Thomas KENNEDY (1920) marriage, caught my attention also, Althea.   (But there could just be a "family" connection here - the Ashburton Cemeteries database throws up some interesting information - will explain shortly) .   ;)

Tiffaney  ... I'm inclined to think that the Sarah KENNEDY who was the second wife of your John SHEARER, was possibly the daughter of "a Hugh and Mary KENNEDY".

From online BDM

BIRTH - 1884 / 16795

KENNEDY - Sarah - parents - Hugh and Mary

That year of birth, also seems to tally with the cemetery record found by Althea.   (D. 1952 aged 67 = bc 1885).

(Perhaps interesting too, that the first child of this marriage was named "Huena Mary"  - actually spelt as "Hughena" on the marriage index)  ??

So, the Sarah SHEARER who died in 1952 is buried at Ashburton Cemetery in Plot 1 - 20 ... and alongside in Plot 1 - 21,  is John SHEARER d. 1938 (aged 87).
[In Plot 1 - 22, is Margaret SHEARER - d. 1917 aged 64 years.
I noticed on one of your other threads, that Margaret GILMOUR was the first wife of John  ... so do you think this is her burial ??]    These plots were purchased by "John SHEARER of Greenstreet" on April 1914.

[Hugh and Mary KENNEDY are also buried at Ashburton.]

Hi Mallow

Sorry, I have no further information, I too, am only able to view the indexes.

Perhaps you could put up another request asking specifically for a look-up of this particular "findmypast" record ?

Looking for more details on a Sarah KENNEDY born ABT 1880 New Zealand,
believe near Ashburton County who married John Peace SHEARER of Wheatstone or Greenstreet Ashburton in 1919.

This was a 2nd married for John & possibly for Sarah.  Believe Sarah was still alive May 1958.

Hi Tiffaney

Not really sure just what sort of details you are wanting for Sarah ??

You can do a "self-search" of the NZ BDM indexes online, for Sarah's birth and death.    (But of course if this was a second marriage for her, then you won't find her birth under "Kennedy").    ;)

The 1930 birth would need to be checked on the "old" Birth Index (microfiche version - at library).    Can't see a marriage (to 1956) though, for a lady of that name. Marriage :  looks like 'Yolande" - will PM you details.

---   Isabella was born c. 1838 - you can find her death notice on the following link.

[ "Tuapeka Times" - 30 January 1904 - Death - page 3]

(I haven't read through them, but there are quite a number of "hits" for the surname TABORN, on the PapersPast website - and perhaps something of interest to you?)

Hi Susan

Unfortunately not able to provide transcriptions from actual marriage certificates, but I'm sure we may be able to help you in some way.   ;)

If you look in the Resources section of this board under (I think ?) "BDM information", you can find out just what type of information was recorded on NZ BDM certificates, for various eras.    (Sadly, an 1873 Marriage certificate, does not offer a lot of information.)

You could post a request on this board however, for a look-up of the "Intention to Marry Notice" (ITM).    (An ITM records the length of time a bride and groom were in the particular district they married in, prior to their wedding.   That though, is NOT necessarily, the length of time that they had been in New Zealand, but sometimes that information can offer up a clue.  (That detail incidentally, is not recorded on the marriage certificate).

NZ Death certificates record the "length of time in NZ" - (but, being as it is, supplied by a third party, sometimes, the information can be misleading/inaccurate).

Hope that helps, a little ?

It may be a tad difficult to source the "correct" Isabella ANDERSON's arrival in NZ, but we can have a look at the passenger lists also.   Do you have Isabella's year of birth ?
