Canada Lookup Request / 1890 Map of York, Ontario
« on: Thursday 14 September 17 14:33 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
I am looking to find the names of ancestors on Concession 2, 3 and 4 EAST of Yonge Street on Lots 1 through 10 in York, Ontario. I understand there is a 1890 map of York, Ontario that shows the names, but I cannot seem to find it on the internet. I am hoping that you can help me. Are there any later maps of York which would also show the lots and the owners? Thank you in advance.

« on: Saturday 05 August 17 15:34 BST (UK)  »
I am attempting to find out if Richard Watson was ever married. Richard was born on March 14, 1842 in Toronto and died September 23, 1893. He was the son of John Watson (b. March 7, 1806 in Yorkshire, England) and Christiana Homley (b. abt. 1805 in Yorkshire). Any information would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I am attempting to find out any information on Arthur Martin. I know he was born in Ireland as was his wife, Ann (no maiden name known), who also was born in Ireland in 1797. In Patricia Hart's book "Pioneering in North York" she has Arthur listed on Lot 4, Concession 4 east of Yonge Street settling there in 1840. The 1861 Census of Canada has Ann Martin living with her son, Samuel Martin, and his family on the same lot and concession. All of my attempts to find information on Arthur or his wife, Ann, have failed. Ann Martin does not appear in the 1871 census with her son, Samuel, so I am thinking she died sometime between 1861 and 1871, but I have been unable to find a copy of her death certificate or a place of burial. Are there any records of a land grant or patent given to Arthur Martin prior to 1840? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Tyrone / Samuel Reid and Sarah Leckey/Lackie County of Tyrone, Ireland in 1844
« on: Monday 12 June 17 18:04 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to trace Samuel Reid's family in the 1841 Ireland census. The youngest of nine children, William, was born in the County of Tyrone in 1844. I only know the names of a few of his other children, Thomas (born 1843), Mary (born 1838), John. Samuel's wife's name was Sarah Leckey, Lackie, Lackey. Any information you would be able to provide such as ages, children's names, etc. I would be eternally grateful for. Thank you in advance.

Canada Lookup Request / Rachel and Elizabeth Reid in York Township in 1800s
« on: Tuesday 02 May 17 17:26 BST (UK)  »
I do not know if this is the correct board to post this question. In my research of early settlers on Concession 4 east of Yonge Street I find 2 Samuel Martin families, one on Lot 4 and the other on Lot 2. Both Samuels are married to Reid women - one is Elizabeth Reid born about 1832 in Ireland and the other Rachel Reid born on September 11, 1827 in Ireland. My dilemma is that I am trying to determine whether the 2 Reid women are sisters and they married men with same given and last name. I have tried to find results in Familysearch and other internet sites and have been unsuccessful. Would you have any suggestions for me? Thank you in advance.

Canada / Sheepard in York, Ontario
« on: Sunday 30 April 17 18:03 BST (UK)  »
In Tremaine's 1860 map of York on the western part of Lot 7, Concession 4 east of Yonge Street is the name of Sheppard. Unfortunately the large letter "K" is covering his name or first initial. Would you have access to any other maps of the same area that might give me a clue to Sheppard's name. Unfortunately he is no longer listed as the owner in the 1878 map of York. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as always.

Canada Lookup Request / McCormack in York, Ontario
« on: Monday 24 April 17 14:12 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for any information regarding an Alexander McCormack, John McCormack and Thomas McCormack. They are listed in the Toronto City and Home District Directory for 1837 as living on Lot 1, Concession 2 east of Yonge Street. I do not know if they are father and sons or all three brothers. The spelling of their surname is unusual. They would have been farmers I would imagine considering the early date. Any information would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Canada Lookup Request / Question re: Church in York, Ontario on Bayview Avenue
« on: Saturday 11 March 17 17:14 GMT (UK)  »
I am sure this is an unusual request but I found on Tremaine's 1860 map of the County of York a structure is shown and marked Ch ENC east of Bayview Avenue and North of Eglinton Avenue on the western side of Lot 2, Concession 2 east of Young Street. Can someone tell me if this is the marking of a church and if so what does ENC stand for. Thank you in advance.
