Durham / Whickham St Mary Marriages 1852 -1890 (transcription)
« on: Sunday 26 January 20 17:47 GMT (UK)  »
I have been given a copy of a transcript of the above marriages.

They give the details that we all like : name, age, marital status, occupation, abode, fathers' names and occupations, witnesses and sometimes, but not always, whether by banns or licence.

If anyone needs details for a particular couple I can have a look.

The Common Room / Will 1849, specifying amounts to be invested In Trust?
« on: Sunday 19 January 20 13:10 GMT (UK)  »
1849 Will of Thomas Orrett, of West Derby, near Liverpool who died 10 April 1853,.

Property left to two of his (three) sons appears to have been conditional that they paid sums of £400 and £80 respectively to the estate. No sum required to be paid for the property left to son 3.
All 3 sons have to raise an annuity to be paid to their mother  of £10 8s/per annum from each son on the property left to them

From the estate £100 each for 2 married daughters to be invested In Trust, income/interest to be paid to them.

£200 to be invested In Trust for a grandson income/interest to be paid to grandson when he reaches 21 (and before that can be used at Trustees discretion for his maintenance/education).
Specifies that should the beneficiaries die, the Trust income to be passed  to any surviving children.

(Total of £400 to go into Trusts)

Anything in the estate, after the above investments are made, to be divided amongst the 3 sons, with the eldest getting the first £160 and the balance to be divided equally between all 3.

Will proved 29 September 1853, personal estate and effects sworn to be under £200.

Am I right in thinking that the setting up of these trust funds would exclude these amounts invested from what was deemed to be his ‘personal estate and effects’ (and, presumably, taxation) ?

If anyone wants to look I transcribed this into bite sized chunks (notes in red are my attempt at interpreting it)

Denbighshire / burial at Llanferres, gravephoto listed as Llanrhydd Cemetery ?
« on: Tuesday 07 January 20 22:30 GMT (UK)  »
I have death certs and burial records in Llanferres Parish Registers for:

Catherine Parry, Pentre, Llanferres, died 28 October 1847, aged 58,  burial 02 Nov 1847
John Parry , of Tafarn Gelyn, Llanferres, died 31 March 1853, aged 66,  burial  04 April 1853

Family Search showed this entry on Billion Graves as a possible match

https://billiongraves.com/grave/John-Parry/25806314

Though the extreme right of the stone isn't included on the photo and its difficult to make out, I believe it is likely to be for the people I am looking for.

Its billed as being in Llanrhydd Cemetery, but Google maps shows that location (shown on the page) as being at or very near to St Berre's church in Llanferres and Llanrhydd Cemetery appears to be about 4 or 5 miles away.

I did see that the NA have, in RG67, reference to gravestones/graves that were removed from Llanferres (doesn't give any details as to where to) and the date range includes these years of death, but the records are listed as being in the database on deceased online. I checked the deceased online site for the specific database and these people do not turn up in the search :-(

Though I appear to have found a likely gravestone photo, I am still uncertain about where the stone is located  - Llanferres or Llanrhydd and not sure how or where to find out.

Lancashire / Jane Shepherd and parents/siblings prior to 1839
« on: Saturday 28 December 19 15:38 GMT (UK)  »
I have a Jane Shepherd born 1809 +/- a couple of years ,EDIT perhaps up to 5years +/- birthplace consistently given as Litherland
I believe that Robert Shepherd and his wife Mary are quite possibly her parents but have not yet found a baptism for her or any of her brothers, Edward, James and William. Also not found a marriage for her parents. From at least 1833 the family were in West Derby.  Its not clear if the children would have been baptised as RC or Anglican, her 'possible' father at least has Papist on his burial record, though Jane's own family after she married were all baptised as Anglican.

Details of what I know about Jane and her family are below, its prior to 1835 I am looking for, I have Jane and her parents sorted from then onwards and am working on her siblings. If anyone can point me in the right direction to find more about her parents I'd appreciate it.
Thanks

Boo

List of what I am sure of:
1835 15 November - marriage Robert Harrison & Jane Shepherd,  St Nicholas, Liverpool
1841 census   Jane Harrison age 25, born in county, Piece 520, Book 8, Folio 20, Page 11 Prescot Rd, West Derby
Next door are  Robert (40) and Mary (45) Shepherd plus Edward (15), James (15) and William 8, all born in county
1841 12 July,  Robert Shepherd died (have dc), age 48, buried 15 July,  Walton on the hill, burial record says ‘Papist’
1851 census  Jane age 36, born Litherland  Piece 2192, Folio 746, Page 14, Prescot Rd West Derby
Jane’s mother, Mary Shepherd, 66, ? maybe should be 60 ? is now a widow, born Sefton and she and her son William (18) born West Derby live with them.
1853  26 February  Mary Shepherd died (have dc), age 60, buried 2nd March Walton on the hill, no mention of religion on record and was signed by the Vicar, so assume she was Anglican
1861 census  Jane age 47, born Litherland,  Piece 2735, Folio 105, Pages 12 & 13, Prescot Rd., West Derby
1871 census Jane age 59, born Litherland, Piece 3849, Folio 34, Page 26, Prescot Rd., West Derby
1881 census Jane age 70, widow, born Litherland, Piece 3713, Folio 69, Pages 27 & 28, 17 Derby St West Derby
1888 25 July, Jane Harrison died (have dc) aged 70 (lost a few years), widow of Robert, last address 4 Springfield St, West Derby, home of her daughter who registered the death. Buried 29 July 1888, St Anne, Stanley burial record says 79 which is more likely.

Lancashire / Liverpool Cemetery Registers now on Ancestry
« on: Tuesday 24 December 19 17:24 GMT (UK)  »
I assume its a very recent database (with images!) England & Scotland, Select Cemetery Registers, 1800-2016 (put the title into the card catalogue)

So far it includes ( for what they bill as Merseyside) Allerton, Anfield, Everton, Kirkdale, Necropolis, St James, St Mary's, Toxteth Park, West Derby

I am hoping there will be more to come :-) I realise that there have been other resources on the web for these cemeteries but this is really good news for anyone who is researching folk from Liverpool as the time frame is a lot greater

For anyone with a sub the above is available now, for those without a sub once the festive season is over a lot of libraries allow access to Ancestry from computers at the library.

The Common Room / Failing to decipher occupation, can anyone help?
« on: Monday 02 December 19 10:56 GMT (UK)  »
1901 census 4 House, 4 Court, Prince Edwin St., Everton, Liverpool
Piece 3481/ Folio 179/ Page 26 / Schedule 126

Jane Aspinall, widow, aged 44, Head (and only occupant), born Liverpool

as well as being faded, the enumerator's check marks obscure the first of the two words.

Any opinions appreciated.
Thanks

Lancashire / Rainhill County Asylum case records 1909-1919
« on: Thursday 21 November 19 13:24 GMT (UK)  »
I have a record from Lunacy Patients Admission Registers; Class: MH 94; Piece: 44 showing that an Esther Huson was admitted on 31 Aug 1909 to Rainhill and died there on 21 Jan 1919.

From the Liverpool Archives catalogue I see they have female case records and death records etc though there is no date range in the catalogue for these specific sub sections of the records.

I can't visit the Archives to look for myself but am hoping to be able to get copies of any records that relate to her.
Does anyone have experience of the Archives research service? Are they likely to be able to do this within a reasonable time scale (some archives are so busy it can months to get round to things like this, others are more geared up and able to deal with requests fairly quickly) or would I be better to see if I can engage a private researcher?
