Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Re: Hargreaves family, Castle Donnington

Thanks Carole,
This helps immensely. I don't think Henry lasted much after 1851, as I can not find him so far in 1861 onwards.

Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Hargreaves family, Castle Donnington
« on: Sunday 30 March 08 23:09 BST (UK)  »
I have an Ann Hargreaves in my family tree born 1842 in Castle Donnington. She married James Cliff in around 1862 and died in 1919. I seem to have connflicting information regarding her parentage. It is believed her father was Henry Hargraves born 1815. However, I have no information what so ever about her mother and wondered if someone could look it up for me. I've tried the IGI and had no joy.

Thanks

Sharon

If he was a bargeman they would have travelled on the waterways all around the country, I'd have thought. My great grandma who was born in Plymouth married her husband from Staffordshire! Again a very long journey!

Jane,
I know what you mean I'm having a real headache with this one. I think the Charlotte from Liverpool sounds more likely and fits more so than the other. With it stating William was a bargeman on the birth certificate of Edward, however he used to use William as his first name rather than Edward.
I'll have another dig and let you kow if I come up with anything.

Jane,
Thanks for this. I actually saw this, Charlotte's death at a young age. I've been looking for the family in the census too. I got Edward in 1891, but he was married to Ann Clayton. I'll keep looking and see if I can find them somehow or somewhere. I'll find out what bargemen did, although I'm not sure if it was civil or with the Navy. There was a William linked to the Navy, but not too sure if this is him or not.

I think Lydia's surname originally was Ellis, but unable to find on census around her birth, but will keep looking.
Thanks for this.
In the 1901 census my Great Grandma wasn't born, but born 2 months later.

Jane,
You are an absolute treasure! I thought this was a bit odd Charlotte being 20 years older. This does make more sense, so will have another look at this and see if I can unravel some of this. I'll try to get the marriage certificate.
Thank-you so much for your fantastic help.

I know. Great fun isn't it. I'm going to try and get the right birth date for William in case that is out. I know sometimes they didn't give their correct date of birth on the census returns so may be a few years out.
Thanks anyway, the mystery deepens.
