World War One / Can anyone help with this WW1 Aussie soldier.
« on: Friday 22 November 13 08:16 GMT (UK)  »
I have a picture of an unidentified Australian WW1 soldier.
See also http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=668825.msg5139509#msg5139509

Can anyone help with the uniform-or were all Australian soldiers dressed the same?

The writing on the pic says Somewhere in France 30th Sept 1917.

We haven't as yet managed to work out what the second line says- the one that I hope might tell us who he is.

Many thanks

Carol

I have a picture of an Aussie soldier dated 1917.

Where should I post it for help with the uniform,to see if we can work out who it is?

Not sure if I should put it on the WW1 board or the Australian one?

Thanks

Clare / How can I get any farther back with the Coleman family?
« on: Thursday 21 November 13 11:07 GMT (UK)  »
I have the marriage of my husband's great great grandparents in Ennis on 14 Jan 1848.
They were Patrick Coleman and Margaret Keane. I cannot get hold of the cert though-how do I do that?

Their first (of 9) child Thomas Coleman b 13 Oct 1848 is my husbands great grandad ,he married Catherine O'Dea on 16 Aug 1875 at the Roman Catholic  Church in Ennis.I have that cert.

The men were mostly Cooper's (made barrels).

Can someone help or guide me on how to go further back with the Coleman's ( sometimes spelt Colman) It's not a very common name over there at the time, and we'd love to know where they originally came from.

Many thanks

Australia / Baker/Brown births after 1912 in Sydney area
« on: Monday 18 November 13 07:25 GMT (UK)  »
I have Lydia Gladys Brown b 1894 d May 1953 marrying Arthur Baker b 1892 on 27th Nov 1912.

I know about 2 of their children Arthur E Baker b 1913 and William Ernest Baker b 2/1/1915 d 7/7/1991.

As the NSW BMD site only shows those up to 1912,how can I find out if there were any more children?

Many thanks

Technical Help / Why won't my computer download emails properly?
« on: Monday 21 October 13 11:24 BST (UK)  »
For months now I have been unable to download more than one email at a time.
I have recently returned from a week's holiday and found that 31 emails took nearly an hour!

I am with BT,and the messages I get are usually similiar to the ones below.
Is there anything I can do to make it start working properly again?

I've also been experiencing delayed emails,as much as 3 days later in some cases ,from a friend with a Virgin account.I am on Windows XP and have always used Outlook Express for emails.

Australia Lookups completed / **COMPLETED** Who is Agnes Garrill?
« on: Monday 17 June 13 10:35 BST (UK)  »
I am helping a friend with his Brown Aussie ancestry.

Agnes married Ernest Edward Brown in Stanmore NSW on 29th March 1888.
Her surname is transcribed as Garrill, parents Richard an engine driver and Margaret Shernley.

Very sadly Ernest died on 3rd May 1888.

Agnes now Brown married his cousin Arthur Aylmer Brown in Forest Lodge,Glebe Sydney on 4th May 1889.
Her parents are now listed as Richard Gorral and Margaret nee Chandler.

Both times Agnes is 22.

She had a son Ernest A A Brown in 1888 in East Macquarie,he sadly died in Redfern in 1919.

Arthur Aylmer Brown died on 18th Dec 1946- Agnes was still alive- they lived in Cook.

There is no one with the surname Garrill or Gorral, and I am having great difficulty pinning her birth....or death down.

Please can someone help me?

Regards

Carol

PS I know all about the cousin's emigration out to Oz in 1886 and their births and families back in London thanks  ;D
