Rusky...

Re 1841..."Address is simply Glen (?)"

Which parish was this & is 'Glen' the home address?

I can only come up with 2 places with 'Glen' in them, Cowglen & Toryglen which are place names rather than an address.

What are the other addresses on the same page/prior?

The only additional thing I found which is of interest, but no help, is mention in the Valuation rolls 1855:
John Anderson, labourer, tenant living at 27 Claythorn Street Glasgow - the address on birth cert of daur Jean b 1855. Looks like a tenement with 8 names/families as tenants at the same address.
Hi Ruskie,

That would be correct as the accommodations were classed as a 'room & kitchen', very basic living space with an outside shared toilet much of the time.

Re "Elizabeth Anderson 68 mother b Auchterarder Fifeshire"...

Even from the transcription Neale provided it's difficult to determine what's correct...

It could have been either Auchterarder, Perthshire (which it was/is) or Auchterderran, Fifeshire (which it was/is)?  ::)  ;D

It may have been easier to determine which was correct had the family been living in either at the time of the 1851 census although it may not have been conclusive  ???

Elizabeth's address Baltic St (1901 cen has her family in Baltic St )
That's interesting as there's an Adam Hamilton, 32 yrs, Boiler Maker at 442 Baltic Street with a wife Eliza & 2 kids, Adam 4 & Alex 1.

They can be found here although I can't say it's the correct man without comparing with the VRs...http://www.rootschat.com/links/01sna/

This could be their marriage index which would tie in with the ages of Adam 4 & Alex 1 in 1901...

A lot of Scottish marriages took place in private residences back then.
I agree with Shaun, often the home of the bride/relative/friend/employer or elsewhere...

It would be unusual to have the full address of a/the church written down, it would usually just have the name of the church.
The presence of an actual address suggests the marriage was not conducted in the UFC.

I looked up the VRs (Valuation Rolls) & prior to 1905, Adam Hamilton was the Tenant/Occupier of 87 Old Dalmarnock Road which is listed under the Parish of Barony (Glasgow Burgh) or Barony (Lanark County).

It would be an idea to check the 1901 census to find out more about him & maybe work out why they were married in his residence, whether he was related/employer or?...

I'm curious where/what 'Nash labda' was/is

Nash is a place name. So I think probably it’s ‘….of Nash, lab(ourer)’

It sure is, thanks to The Yokel for posting the link...

Can you transcribe it all please to give some context to possibilities & what do others on the page have?

What religion were they, who were witnesses?

My 1st thought was Parish ? ?

I'm curious where/what 'Nash labda' was/is

It does look very promising with such an unusual name!

Clare,

Have you tried the LEEDS Method on your DNA matches to narrow down matches on your g/mother's maternal side as her mother may have married/had more children & Elizabeth the same?

It's best you google The Leeds Method as there are so many different things to read through (plus videos) based on different peoples' experiences, who they're trying to find & how best to do it.

I'm unsure if it's just me but the above links are not working, could it be to do with the search engine I'm using, Microsoft Edge?
