Completed Census Requests / Slarkes / Starkes COMPLETED-THANKS
« on: Thursday 28 September 06 13:28 BST (UK)  »
I have the above 2 possible surname spellings for an Ann(e), her baptism 8 Sept 1611 and marriage to William Longhurst(e) 6 June 1629, both in Abinger.

I know many of you out there have far more experience as to which one is more or most likely to be the correct one. Not being able to access the original pr's or transcriptions, I would be grateful for your opinions.

Cambridgeshire Lookup Requests / 1901 census look-up please Walter LONGHURST
« on: Sunday 10 September 06 17:49 BST (UK)  »
Hello All

I am trying to find Walter Longhurst but his surname is prone to mis-transcription.

Walter was baptised Nov 1840 in Ealing Middlesex. He married Georgi(a)na Woods in Gaywood, Kings Lynn in Sept 1867. They then started a family back in Greater London and in 1868,1871 and 1873 were in Pimlico, 1875 Wandsworth, 1878 Edmonton, 1880 Waltham Abbey and 1886 Peckham. The family were prone to travelling. They were at Thaxted for the 1881 census. In 1901 they were in Twickenham.

By 1901 some of the family were in Cottenham having arrived sometime around 1896 when one of the children dies there.

Georgina has been transcribed on the Ancestry index as Longbuset and the 1901 National Archive index as Loughton but she is head of the family, as she was in 1881.

So were is Walter? he's around somewhere as his death is recorded at St Ives in 1910. His occupation should be 'carpenter'.

Hope someone can find him.

Thanks in advance

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / 1901 census - ALICE WHEABLE
« on: Wednesday 06 September 06 10:32 BST (UK)  »
I have been trying to find Alice Wheable on the 1901 census

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,178180.0.html

I am now struggling to reconcile the results list that Ancestry and the 1901 National Archive (GR) page both list, as they are completely different.

Alice appears to not be under her surname which I know is prone to mis-transcription and variations.

I have searched both sites using

Name ALICE (no surname)
birth year 1874      +/- 5 years
POB Chelsea

as search criteria.

Strangely on the 1901 site there is a return for 'Alice W Letet l' but I don't have any credits to see the image, I tried to cross reference her on the Ancestry site and can't see the same or a similar entry.

As Alice is not with the rest of family, I'm assuming she is in service somewhere.

I'm hoping another pair of eyes can track her down. Does she turn up on an 'Origins' search, I don't have access to that but I know many of you do.

(Please don't waste a credit looking at the '1901' image, when I have a batch of look-ups to pay for I'll get the credits.)

Thanks in advance

Cornwall Lookup Requests / Baptism look-up please Sophia HOWELL 1796 Penzance
« on: Wednesday 30 August 06 00:21 BST (UK)  »
Looking for her baptism, but  this baptism request is a real long shot.

Working back through the censuses Sophia is born around 1796.

By 1841 John Sherry is married to a Sophia and living in Marylebone. The census indicates he is from Ireland, she is not born in the county.

By 1851 the census shows her to be from Cornwall and 1861 Penzance.

By 1841 they have had children and the only possible marriage I can find is 7th August 1820 St Martins in th Field where her surname is shown as Howell. I've checked th register at the LMA but no fathers details are shown and the 'professional' witnesses are the same for every entry on the page.

Have checked the IGI for batisms and there's nothing and online parish offers but I don't know which parish.

At the end of the day though her surname may not be Howell and I'll be completely stumped.

I hope someone can help or point me in another direction for a marriage.

Thanks in advance.

Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Old Alresford PR's - burials Wheable
« on: Saturday 26 August 06 19:25 BST (UK)  »
Hello All

Hoping someone on here has access to copies of the parish registers or can point me in the right direction.

I am looking for a burial for James and Charlotte Wheable after 1821 when their son Stephen was born. They are not on the 1841 census. I think Charlotte may have died December 1/4 1839 (Freebmd).

Thanks in advance

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / 1901 lookup please - Alice WHEABLE
« on: Thursday 24 August 06 09:57 BST (UK)  »
Hello all

I am trying to find Alice on the 1901 census and have tried both the National Archive and Ancestry search pages.

She was born in Chelsea in 1874 but didn't marry until 1903.

Her other family are found in Battersea transcribed as Wheable Whenble or Wheatle depending on where you search.

Hoping another pair of eyes can find her.

Thanks in advance.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / 1851/1861 Census Look-up - SHERRY
« on: Tuesday 22 August 06 14:07 BST (UK)  »
Hello All

Hoping another pair of eyes will confirm what I've found or find another possibility.

William Augustus Sherry was baptised 30 June 1822 St James Church Paddington.

I think I've found him on the 1841 census just as William without a surname at 1 Vere Street (HO107 piece 676 bk 1f olio 20 pg 32) but then I've got a problem.

Is this him in 1851? The Ancestry search result lists a William Sherry with a wife Charlotte at 39 Gloucester Street, Finsbury (HO107 piece 1513 folio 104 pg 24) but I'm sure the enumerator has him written down as Shury on the census sheet.

Is this him in 1861? This time Ancestry search results show William and Charlotte Shury at Perry Mill, Lewisham (RG9 piece417 folio 111 pg 22). By this time they have a son Charles with them aged 9.

I haven't found a death for William Sherry between 1841 and 1851, and there isn't a marriage for William Sherry with a Charlotte but there is one for William Shury.

If this isn't him and his family, has anyone got any other possible sightings?

Thanks in advance

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / Marriage Sarah Longhurst
« on: Wednesday 09 August 06 11:25 BST (UK)  »
Sarah Longhurst married George Hood/Hoad 27 Dec 1862 at Wotton.

Would be grateful if someone has access to PR's to look this up. Hoping to find Sarah's father's name and confirmation of Hood/Hoad.

I realise this may not be on the published m/fiche transcription of the PR's.

Thanks in advance.
