London and Middlesex / Re: Kilburn or Holburn? Reg dist. 1869/70.

www.ancestry.co.uk

follow the link to 'England & Wales BMD Index'

Had a look under all 4 quarters 1868, 1869 and 1870, nothing there for Robert Norris in an area that could be Kilburn, there was an entry for Hackney JFM 1870 as well as the Holborn one.

Would suggest his birth wasn't registered (wasn't compulsory until later I think 1875??) or entered as Robert Norris or he wasn't born in Kilburn.

I think Kilburn came under the Kensington or Paddington districts, year depending, unless someone knows otherwise.

And 1867 1868 and poss 1869 have not been fully transcribed on Freebmd. You could try the untranscribed images at Ancestry.co.uk

Hi Moors

What info do you have on this couple already?

Any thing on where they were born or married? What was Maragaret's maiden name? Did they have children?

The county of Surrey is quite a large area. Can the area be narrowed down?

If they are on the 1891 they have been mis-transcribed.

I've searched on George, Geroge, Goerge, Davis, Davies, Daws, Dawes, put in Chiswick, left it blank, +/- on birth year etc etc

The other option is to go through each of the 16 Chiswick enumeration districts, all 729 pages, to see if they are hiding, and then do the same for Brentford  ;D

Dread to think how much of my monthly download alloation that would use ;D ;D

Does anyone have access to an index of the 1891 on CD rom?

Hi Art  ( & Jane)

Quote
it's a shame only you and Tricia have come aboard

Some of us are still with you way on this thread, it's just from my experience Jane has faster fingers than others and instant access to a vast accumulation of useful data.  ;D

I've got your Ann Longhurst in my 'possibles' pile.

There are clues as to where he is in 1891 from the 1901 census

1901 Parish St Pauls, Dorking, Norfolk Road

David   38   Horse Trainer born Dorking
Rose   34                                   Manchester
Herbert   9                                 Paray a Fresli FRANCE
Henry Lewis   3                          Ashtead Surrey

I suggest that in 1891 David and Rose are living in France, possibly marrying there and maybe expecting their first child.

Henry Lewis Longhurst birth can be found on Freebmd Sept 1/4 1897 Epsom 2a 20.

In 1871 there is a possible sighting in Abinger (RG10 pc 287 folio 109 Pg 7)

John Longhurst Head Widower 55 born Ockley
Mary Longhurst  Dau Unm 24 Abinger
Georgiana Longhurst Grand Dau 5 Dorking
David Longhurst Grandson 4 Dorking

This ties up with a Freebmd entry Sept 1/4 1866 Dorking 2a 127

Still cant find him on 1881 though.

Hope this helps.

Cornwall Lookup Requests / Baptism look-up please Sophia HOWELL 1796 Penzance
« on: Wednesday 30 August 06 00:21 BST (UK)  »
Looking for her baptism, but  this baptism request is a real long shot.

Working back through the censuses Sophia is born around 1796.

By 1841 John Sherry is married to a Sophia and living in Marylebone. The census indicates he is from Ireland, she is not born in the county.

By 1851 the census shows her to be from Cornwall and 1861 Penzance.

By 1841 they have had children and the only possible marriage I can find is 7th August 1820 St Martins in th Field where her surname is shown as Howell. I've checked th register at the LMA but no fathers details are shown and the 'professional' witnesses are the same for every entry on the page.

Have checked the IGI for batisms and there's nothing and online parish offers but I don't know which parish.

At the end of the day though her surname may not be Howell and I'll be completely stumped.

I hope someone can help or point me in another direction for a marriage.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Ewan

I take it that you have got your George Lewis Davis 1884 marriage from Freebmd and cannot work out who he married from that ie Sarah Hoskins or Eliza Ann Allen?

Looking at the matching entries gives you a marriage for Reuben Thatcher who turns up on the 1891 census with wife Sarah and mother in law Mary A Hoskins.

So by deduction George Davis married Eliza Ann Allen.

Still cant see them yet on 1891 though.

What evidence do you have to support his place of birth as Chiswick?

The reason for asking is that Chiswick and Brentford are only 3 miles apart and could be interchanged.

If they were 'lodging' the surname could also be spelt Davies if they didn't get to fill in their own forms.

Let us know
