The Common Room / Re: Yelverton as middle name
« on: Sunday 05 July 20 14:10 BST (UK)  »
It is YELVERTON. Have got certificate and also looked at it on ancestry (or was it FindMyPast?). GRO says GELVERTON - Have told them that's wrong. Son (still alive) has YELVERTON as his middle name but doesn't seem to recall where it comes from. There are various YELVERTON SCOTT eg in USA on google. Can't find any YELVERTON (Place or family) connections in earlier generations.

The Common Room / Yelverton as middle name

Am researching for a friend. Her ancestor has middle name YELVERTON yet we don't know why and can't find any links with the places of that name in Norfolk and Devon. There are no connections with any Yelvertons as far as we can see. Father of this ancestor was butler near Woodstock, Oxfordshire.
Any ideas why they would suddenly come up with this as middle name?

Still got the problem as if I go through google to yahoo login and click on login or mail it automatically puts me in to my partner's e-mail in-box page cos that is the way she accesses it. How can I just get the login template so I can input my username/password or can't I do it?

Bought it from a friend of my partner He then removed his stuff and set me up. I access mail by clicking on mail icon at bottom of screen which takes me straight to the inbox. (If I went in by typing yahoo then mail then user and password etc would that take me in differently and get spam etc?)

Technical Help / Yahoo E-Mail query
« on: Friday 03 July 20 11:53 BST (UK)  »
Before getting laptop I used to only access e-mail etc in local library. There I have a spam folder where I used to get stuff pretty regularly. Now on the laptop at home using same e-mail address (yahoo) there is no spam folder just one called junk mail or similar which never seems to get anything. When I occasionally access e-mail in the library there is the spam folder with messages in.
Why can't I see these at home - there might be something there I need to see! Have asked at library but no-one seems to know other than computers set up differently or different software?

Need to try to persuade your library to subscribe. Cheshire give access to findmypast and ancestry and you can access them from home now while libraries are shut.

Devon Lookup Requests / Re: PHILLIPS Baptisms - Plymouth?
« on: Wednesday 18 March 20 12:48 GMT (UK)  »
Now got birth certificates. Dorothy's says born 3 Fore Street, Totnes, mother also informant Henrietta Ward formerly Finch address 6 Clarendon Place Plymouth which in 01 census is boarding house. Father is William Henry Ward.
Nita's says mother is Elizabeth Henrietta Ward formerly Finch. Father William Hayden Ward. Birth and informant address 7 Melbourne Mansions Fulham which in 1901 census (and googling now) is apartments.
Can't find marriage so suspect it didn't happen? (She doesn't get his name the same on both certs).
There is an Elizabeth Henrietta Finch in 81 and 91 Plymouth censuses who could be a more likely candidate than the Egham one? Not found her in 01 by when the children are visitors with Laskey family. Not found any Laskey/Finch connection.

Thanks ladies. I hadn't gone down that route but between your 2 posts had just found the Dorothy Finch Ward entry in freebmd.
Obviously by 1901 census they had reverted to surname Phillips.
Have also just revisited the will and found codicil dated October 1897 leaving money to Henrietta Elizabeth Finch of Plymouth (hadn't noted the date! so my error). So presumably she is the mother.
Will order the certificate(s).
Would anything have to be done legally to change their names from their birth eg deed poll?
