Denbighshire / 'cefn' on documents
« on: Wednesday 13 October 04 21:09 BST (UK)  »
hello!
On some old insurance documents from the 1900's, the address of the insured is given as Cefn, denbighshire.....can anyone shed any light on where this is?  the family is based in Ruabon, with the exception of this individual...is Cefn near Ruabon?
many thanks in advance

Hi again

In view of John's connection with Ruabon in Wales, here is the other Welsh entry for Pyne - maybe some of the names may jog mums memory.

Name Age in 1891 Birthplace Relationship to head-of-house Civil parish County

Pyne, Annie 3 Cefn, Denbighshire Daughter  Ruabon  Denbighshire
Pyne, Ellen 36 Yorkshire, Yorkshire Wife  Ruabon  Denbighshire
Pyne, John 44 Ireland Head  Ruabon  Denbighshire
Pyne, Lockie 2 Cefn, Denbighshire Son  Ruabon

Occupation of Head was a Labourer

Chris in 1066Land

hi Chris,
many thanks for this!
when i mentioned the daughters name Annie, a penny dropped and mum remembered there was an elder sister called Annie! She remembered her dad was born in ireland, and as they eventually settled here in sheffield, perhaps this was because of his wife's yorkshire roots.
Again, many thanks for taking the time to look this up for me...you are a star!!

Completed Census Requests / 1837online/census lookup please
« on: Saturday 09 October 04 22:51 BST (UK)  »
hello all,
i wonder if anyone can help me? Im trying to trace my mums father, but have had no luck in finding any trace of him.
His name in John Pyne (was originally spelt pine, but the family story goes someone changed it to p -y - ne to make it sound posher!). We think his date of birth is 15.03.1889, but it may be 1891 as his age on his marriage certificate (to ruth rodwell in 1921) is 2 years adrift of my mums recollection of his date of birth. My mum isnt sure where he was born...she mentions irish tinkers in his family, but has recollection of his family living in Ruabon in Wales. I cant find any reference to his birth anywhere....He was married in Sheffield, and died in sheffield in the 1950s.
He had a sister, Elizabeth who was born mid 1890s, and a brother Thomas, born around 1891.
On his marriage certificate in 1921, it states his fathers name was also John Pyne.
Can anyone help with an 1837online or census look up?, or have any advice on where I should look next?
Thanks in anticipation,

Sue

hi Tara,
thank you so much for taking the time to look them up for me...it was very helpful!  Several of the names I had are from a family prayer book, with anecdotes written about them but no link to who was who!! - now I know who they are!
thanks again
