Family History Beginners Board / Finding an address
« on: Tuesday 08 July 08 11:32 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I have lost a family. They are on the 1841 census but then disappear. However, I have an address from an 1846 marriage certificate and I wondered if it was possible to search ancestry for the address and find out who was living there in 1851.

Thanks

Family History Beginners Board / Marriages

Hello,

If I am looking for the details of a marriage that took place in the early 20th century do I have to order the certificate from the Records Office/or visit the Records Office or are such records also available to see locally e.g at churches, Local Record Offices and Registry Offices?

Thanks

Spotted in the local paper

"Cumbria County Council's Libraries are stepping back in time....Libraries will be displaying photographs from days gone by, hosting local history talks and organising heritage walks....while family history hunters will be offered tips on how to begin researching their own genealogy. Several libraries are offering free taster sessions on the Ancestry.co.uk internet service."

Does anyone know whether the Police Station in Potter Street is still standing? In 1881 it was at 32 Potter St but by 1891 the address is given as 34/36 Potter Street.
Thanks

Roscommon / Where or What is Camlin?
« on: Friday 29 February 08 14:19 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone can help me. We have a letter written by my ggg grandfather in which he states that his father was a William Phibbs Irwin. He also mentions his cousin General Irwin who had just died c1890 aged about 80 so I was able to trace him and through him the parents. That generation all seem to have been born at Camlin.

I cannot find Camlin as a place but I have recently found ahouse called Camlin in which some Irwins lived. So could somebody enlighten me as to whether or not there is a Camlin village/hamlet etc or does Camlin definately mean the house.

Also does anyone have any idea whether or not there is anything written about the Irwins anywhere.

Thanks
Brie
