Cornwall / Burial Place of Robert JERRETT d1873?
« on: Tuesday 04 August 09 15:46 BST (UK)  »
I have been searching for some time for the burial place of Robert Jerrett, without success.

Robert was born in Sandford, Devon 1815 to parents James Jerrett and Mary Cousins.   He married Sarah Strong in 1846 in Paddington, London - they already had five children, all born in Sandford, followed by four more.   The family moved to Toxteth Park, Liverpool sometime between 1861 and 1871.

Robert became a Master Mariner sailing all over the world.   He died 17.01.1873 at Bar, Falmouth whilst Master of Sea Queen, on which his son Robert, b1843 Sandford, was serving.    In 1971 this ship was registered in the name of Mrs Jane Goodyear.   Robert's youngest son Samuel Strong Jerrett, b1857 Sandford, was a partner in the Goodyear company and was based in Liverpool.

Robert's wife Sarah was buried in the Toxteth Park cemetery in Liverpool, at a later date, but there is no record of Robert's body having been taken there for burial.   The obvious assumption is that he was buried in Falmouth, but I have drawn a blank so far.

Can anyone help please ???

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Parents of John Dyke b1865 Toxteth Park
« on: Saturday 28 February 09 18:25 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to find information about John Dyke's parents and grandparents.

John b1865 Toxteth Park married May Harriet Harries in 1898.   He had brothers Frederick William Dyke b1867 Liverpool, Harry William Dyke b1870 Liverpool, Alexander Dyke b1872 W Derby, Rudolph Dyke b1878 W Derby.   Also a sister Minnie b1874 Liverpool.

They all appear on the 1881 census with mother Elizabeth age 44 born Liverpool.
I believe their father was a Master Marriner, which would explain his absence, and I think he was lost at sea in 1900.   His son Frederick also seems to have been a Master Marriner.

I have found a marriage of Harry William Dyke to Elizabeth Cosgrove on 21.02.1864 St Silas Liverpool which sounds hopeful.

Please can anyone help?

Canada / James Duncan Forrest b12.03.1913 possibly in Calgary.
« on: Sunday 26 October 08 17:27 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help me trace James Duncan Forrest b12.03.1913 please.

His name appears in my grandmother's birthday book as living in Calgary aged 4 years.

My grandmother was Elizabeth (Lizzie) Forrest b04.02.1875 Partick Glasgow, who emigrated to Vancouver from Glasgow, Scotland with her husband Robert MacMillan/McMillan b12.03.1875 Glasgow Scotland and three small children in 1913.   Lizzie had a brother James S (probably Simpson) Forrest b16.07.1877 Partick, Glasgow who also emigrated to Canada from Scotland, but I don't know when.   I think he started off in Calgary and then went to Vancouver.   He was married to Isabel ? I think latish in life.   I know she was originally Scottish, but suspect they married in Canada.   I am pretty sure James never had children.

I believe my grandmother had a cousin William Forrest b20.11.1897 in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, but who died in Canada 1978.   That's all I know of him.

Any help unravelling this mystery would be gratefully received.

Buckinghamshire / Death/Burial of John Johnson 1833-1837
« on: Friday 17 October 08 17:55 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the death/burial of John Johnson b1833 (christened 12.07.1833 Maids Morton, Bucks), parents John Johnson and Charlotte Ayers.   A brother John Ayres Johnson was born 1837 also in Maids Morton, so I am presuming that the first John had died.

Can anyone help please.

Derbyshire / Help tracing Arthur Oldham bc1680 please.
« on: Sunday 05 October 08 15:09 BST (UK)  »
I have hit a brick all with Arthur Oldham bc1680.   He married Elizabeth (surname unknown) about 1697 and they had six children, all born in Morton, Derbys.   That's all I can find out about him.

I am trying to trace the family back to Hugh Oldham bc1452-1519.

Hugh was Bishop of Exeter 1504-19, principal benefactor of Corpus Christi College, Oxford and founder of the Manchester Grammar School.   He was born in either Oldham or Manchester, his father was Roger and he had a brother James who seem to have been property dealers.

Can anyone help please?

Berkshire / Elizabeth Dean/Deane b 1832
« on: Sunday 07 September 08 18:25 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to trace my g grandmother Elizabeth Deane.   She was born 11.08.1832 and was christened 23.09.1832 in Independent, Mortimer, Berks, the daughter of George Dean and Sarah.   She had siblings Barnard/Bernard b 21.11.1827 and Fanny b 14.02.1830, both christened in Independent, Mortimer.

On the 1841 census they appear staying with Henry and Daniel Love and (looks like) Harry and Mary Horton at Bloomfield Hatch, Sulhampstead, Berks.

On the 1851 census Fanny has disappeared (dead?) and Barnard and Elizabeth are living with Daniel Love at Snelsmore Farm House, Chieveley.   They are classed as niece and nephew.   Barnard is 'assistant' and Elizabeth 'housekeeper'.

I can't trace their parents and am wondering if Sarah has died.

Can anyone help please?

Lanarkshire / John Harley - Glasgow area.
« on: Tuesday 26 August 08 16:51 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help please.   I am looking for John Harley and family in the Glagow area, possibly Anderston.

John married Agnes Dixon/Dickson 16.07.1838 and they had two children that I know of - Agnes and Maryann b 1852.   Presumably there were other children before these two.

Aberdeenshire / George Hendry c1790
« on: Saturday 09 August 08 19:27 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find the birth date and the marriage date of George Hendry, who married Isabel Asher, so that I can find information on his parents.   I've tried IGI and Scotlads People.

George and Isabel's son Thomas was born in Forres, Morayshire 12.04.1824 and was married to Isabel Fraser in Old Machar, Aberdeen 31.10.1846.   I know of no other siblings.   I have been unable to find Thomas and family on 1851, 1861 or 1871 census.

Please can anyone help?

Many thanks,

Joan
