Canada / Randal Churton Harries, Hamilton Ontario 1905
« on: Monday 24 March 08 18:30 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help with information about Randal Churton Harries please.   Born in Liscard, Cheshire, England 18/06/1878, he was sent to Hamilton, Ontario in disgrace in 1905 - according to the family bible.   The bible also states that he joined the army (Canadian or British?) in 1916 and returned 1919.   Not sure where he returned to and there is no information after that.  Did he remain in Canada, or did he return to England?

His father William James Harries (b03/10/1847 Toxteth Park, Liverpool, England) went to visit him soon after and died in Hamilton 23/08/1906.   I believe he is buried in Hamilton cemetery.

The Common Room / Mystery of William James Harries b03.10.1847
« on: Monday 17 March 08 11:23 GMT (UK)  »
Family hearsay is that William James Harries was born (03/10/1847) in Haverfordwest, the family bible says Toxteth Park, Liverpool and both the 1881 and 1901 census say Liverpool.   I believe he had a sister Amy (dob unknown) who married James/Jim Knowles and they had one child, Jane.   I can find niether William or Amy on the 1851 census so I have no idea who their parents were.

William married Harriet Susannah Churton (b24/02/1850 in Oswestry) at Walton Church Liverpool on 23/06/1873.

Can anyone help me solve this mystery please?

Armed Forces / Help - who is this?
« on: Sunday 10 February 08 14:39 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help me to identify this gentleman please?   This picture is in the pub oposite Radford Semele church near Leamington Spa, Warwickshire.   We think he might be a Thornley or someone connected to the family.   The Thornleys lived at Radford Hall and owned the Radford Hall Brewery in the early/mid 20th century.
Thanks, Joan

Lanarkshire / Help to trace Annie McMillan b1883 Partick? please.
« on: Thursday 31 January 08 18:44 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help me find a birth certificate and/or any other information about Annie McMillan b 1883 please.
Her parents were Robert Shaw McMillan and Agnes Harley.   She was the middle of nine children, most of whom were born in Partick, Glasgow.   I have found birth certificates for all her siblings.   She appears aged 8yrs on 1891 census and aged 18yrs on 1901 census, but that is the only trace I have of her.
Thanks,
Joan

Devon Lookup Requests / JERRETT of Sandford, Devon
« on: Thursday 24 January 08 15:29 GMT (UK)  »
I've come to a brick wall trying to find traces of Samuel Strong Jerrett's father, father's siblings and parents.   Samuel was born 1857 in Sandford.   His father was a Master Mariner, possibly called Robert or John, and was married to Sarah Strong (bc 1813) around 1835.   There were 9 children that I know of, Samuel Strong Jerrett being the youngest.
On 1841, 1851, 1861 and 1871 census Sarah Jerrett - mother - appears as head of the household, which presumably means father was at sea.   The first three census are from Sandford, but in 1771 Sarah - mother - and Samuel S are in Toxteth Park, Liverpool.
Until I know Samuel Strong Jerrett's father's name, when he was born/died and who his parents were, I'm stuck.   I have lots of Sandford Jerretts but can't connect them yet.
Can anyone help please?

Lanarkshire / Birth Look up Please. Margaret McMillan 1841/48 Glasgow.
« on: Sunday 02 December 07 18:56 GMT (UK)  »
I have a conundrum!   In the 1841 Census for Govan, North of Clyde, my gg grandparents Robert and Jane McMillan have a daughter Margaret aged 3 months.   In the 1851 Census this Margaret does not appear but there is another one aged 3 years born in Partick.   This is definitely the right family, but am wondering if the first Margaret died in infancy.   I have been unable to find birth records for either and have found no death record.
Can anyone help please?
