Sussex Lookup Requests / Marriage: Fanny Mitchell/William Crunden
« on: Monday 04 July 16 21:14 BST (UK)  »
If anyone is going to East Sussex Record Office please could you have a quick check of the marriage between Fanny Mitchell and William Crunden?  I believe it was on 30th Aug 1832 in Eastbourne.  I need all the details from the Marriage entry, particularly the parents and witness names.  Thank you.  If I can return the favour in Portsmouth or Winchester please let me know.

« on: Thursday 31 March 16 17:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

An ancestor of mine is shown on successive censuses as a 'Captain Foretop' then a P.O.I.C. JM  Please can someone tell me what these are?  Is the first one the same as a Captain?

Thanks

Sussex Lookup Requests / Cuckfield Workhouse 1861 PARKHURST
« on: Friday 18 March 16 16:20 GMT (UK)  »
Is there a kind person out there with access to the Cuckfield Workhouse Registers who could look and tell me if there was a Charles Martin Parkhurst or Baytup in there around 1861.  He was born 1852 locally.  Failing that can anyone tell me if there is somewhere I could access the records please?  Thanks.

Sussex / Vivitrow, Chichester

Hi,

Please could someone tell me where Vivitrow was?  I can't find it on the net - not even in Genuki!  I guess it was somewhere south of Chichester?

Thanks

Other Countries / Marriage in Trinidad???
« on: Sunday 04 October 15 16:26 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find out whether my step father married on the island of Trinidad whilst he was posted to the Naval Base in Piarco, Trinidad in the 1940s.  Please can anyone advise me where to start?  There is no record of a marriage at the Overseas branch of the GRO, but the date he has always given for his marriage was whilst he was out there.  There is a possibility he married before his divorce came through in the UK.   ??? ???
Thanks in advance

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Robert Bateson Baptism
« on: Thursday 09 July 15 16:45 BST (UK)  »
Please could someone check a baptism for me?  There are 2 possibilities, both in Settle.  The name is Robert Bateson.   I have found a birth record for a Robert Hindman Bateson Q2 1842 in Settle and a baptism record for a Robert Bateson 1 Aug 1841 in Settle (with birth record Q3 1841), but don't know which is the correct one.  I'm sending for his marriage certificate to get his father's name, so if I can get the baptism details for both hopefully that will confirm which it is.  Thanks a lot in advance.

Wicklow / Troy/Lawless Marriage Look up in Bray please.
« on: Monday 27 April 15 21:43 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I wonder if anyone could kindly check the records for the Roman Catholic church in Bray to see if there is a marriage for Marie Troy and Archibald Lawless please?  Marie was baptised there in 1829 but she may have been 8 years old or so then.  I think they would have married late 30s early 40s - their first child is born 1845 by which time they are living in Wicklow Town.  This is one of our brick walls as Archie is very elusive!

Thank you in advance.

Wicklow / Vicars in Wicklow
« on: Tuesday 21 October 14 21:24 BST (UK)  »
Hi,  Could anyone help me please.
I am trying to establish WHERE in Wicklow my great grandfather was baptised.  His name was Joseph Michael Thomson and he was baptised a Roman Catholic in the Parish of Wicklow on 16 Sept 1864.  His sponsors were Christopher Lawless and Julia Foley. I got this information from a microfiche of the Baptism Register in Dublin in 2008, but being new to Family History then I foolishly didn't write down the name of the church.  However I believe the page is headed "Baptisms carried out(?) by M Sullivan Vicar.  I wondered if anyone might know which church he was vicar of at this time.
Thank you.

World War One / Labour Corps
« on: Saturday 20 September 14 14:50 BST (UK)  »
Is it possible a man could have enlisted into the Labour Corps 28/12/14, but remained in his job at Portsmouth Dockyard until he was mobilised on 27/8/16, been demobbed back to the Dockyard on 27/8/18 but not being discharged from the Labour Corps until 29/3/19?   I am having great trouble finding any information on my Grandfather's War Service.  His name is Alfred Austen Thompson (also known as Augustine) dob 8/5/1892.  I can find a medal card for an Augustine Thompson giving the enlistment and discharge dates, I also have his employment record from the Dockyard giving his mob/demob dates.  Am trying to figure out if it could be the same person, bearing in mind the unusual name and the fact I can find no other records.  ??? ???
