FindMyPast have a transcript of that marriage - Roberts father is William Wayland and Caroline's father Isaac Grigg

Caroline was 19 at marriage and witnesses were James Grigg and Hannah Grigg
Father says James.

John Whitby born 1787, attested at Colchester, 2nd October, 1805, aged 18yrs.to 24th June, 1829.seargeant  in West Kent militia. John born in St Margaret, Ipswich.
Discharged with chronic rheumatism.

He is 5ft 3quarter  inches, dark hair, dark complexion, grey eyes and a cordwainr by trade.

John Whitby baptised 29th October 1786, at St Margaret, Ipswich to John and Elizabeth, late Aldred.
They also had Charles born 1791 and Elizabeth born 1788.
John and Elizabeth married in Ipswich on 18th June 1786.

...and I know it is a cardinal sin to try and force the facts to fit what you want them to, but I'm now beginning to wonder whether the Ethelbert on that multiple baptism in 1837 in Maidstone might possibly have meant to have been Albert, especially if the officiating priest or his parish clerk were getting fed up and impatient with the numbers of young people getting baptised that day...?

Selina Eliza Whitby married Samuel Cleveland Cook in Ipswich in 1848. According to 1851, she was born in Maidstone in c1827.
