Caithness / Robert and Thomas McKay
« on: Tuesday 17 January 17 10:44 GMT (UK)  »
Hi .. I am trying to trace 2 sons of Robert McKay a carpenter and his wife Margaret Bremner who lived latterly in Argyle Square Wick. They had 5 children Thomas born 1841, John Born 1842 and died in Edinburgh 1863,  Williamina born 1845 married George Flett and died in 1909 in Findochty, Margaret born 1850 died in Argyle Sq in 1876 and Robert 1853. I can find Robert in the 1881 census as a cooper living with his sister Williamina and her family in 15 Argyle Sq Wick .. and then he seems to disappear .. Nothing seems to match in the census or death records. I think I can see Thomas as an apprentice ships carpenter in Aberdeen in 1861 and possibly in the seamans reserve in 1871 census .. but after that again nothing seems to match either as McKay or MacKay !!! .. Any help greatly appreciated

Caithness / Jane McKay or Isabella MacKay Watten
« on: Wednesday 16 November 16 10:12 GMT (UK)  »
My great grandmother Margaret Gunn Coghill was born 18th July 1866 at Banks Watten , She was an illegitimate child born to Isabella McKay farm servant as written on the birth certificate. The father was given as John Coghill also a farm servant. When Margaret Gunn Coghill died at Gillock on 2nd Feb 1901 her mothers name was given on the death certificate as Jane MacKay. The only other information I have was that Margaret Coghill seems to have been in Dunnet with her uncle as below
