US Lookup Requests / Brick Wall
« on: Tuesday 02 March 21 16:14 GMT (UK)  »
This is difficult as I have so little information to go on.

A great uncle of my Littlejohn family emigrated to Detroit in Michigan so I was told. He was born in Aberdeenshire in 1877 the son of James Littlejohn & Christina Ross.

He was last recorded in Scotland on the 1891 census age 14.

I thought I had found him on the 1930 census in Dearborn, Detroit but his immigration year was listed as 1889.

I think it is possible that he first arrived in Canada then crossed the border.

My parents were advised to put a claim in on his estate as he died intestate. This request came from my father's three sisters who were still living in Scotland. Unfortunately all have since died so I have no idea if one of them had previously had any contact with him and who advised them of his death. I think it would have been around 1959.

I can't find his death registered on any online resource and would love to add the information to my family tree.

Canada / Ontario baptisms
« on: Sunday 23 August 20 15:22 BST (UK)  »
Looking for the baptisms of the four children of Charles Littlejohn and Maria Lynch.

Mary Jane b. 1860, Catherine b. 1863, Ellen b. 1868 & Charles b. 1871.

Maria was an Irish Catholic so I assume the children were baptised as Catholic.

I have all the census and death records but cannot find the marriage of Charles & Maria which should have been prior to 1860. Charles was born in Scotland in 1838 and Maria in Ireland in 1841.

It is a long while since I did any research on this line so apologise if I have queried this before.

The family lived in Wentworth County, Ontario before crossing the border into Detroit in 1896.

Herefordshire Lookup Requests / Private burial ground

My ancestor Richard Dowding was buried in Bury Hill Chapel graveyard in Weston under Penyard so I have been told. He died in 1929.

The Chapel is now privately owned and I wondered if there is any way of finding out if the graves are still there.

Canada Lookup Request / My ancestor incorrectly added to an Ancestry tree
« on: Saturday 25 July 20 16:01 BST (UK)  »
I would welcome some advice as how do proceed with this query please.

I have contacted the owner of the tree and asked him to remove my ancestors and the reply was that he has a person of that name in his family and won't delete it.

My ancestor never married and yet she is the wife of his ancestor and three generations of my family are included on his tree.

His ancestor supposedly died in 1908 whereas mine did not die until 1936.

I have her death certificate and the grave details where she is buried with her parents and four siblings. He has included this information on his tree.

I need proof but cannot find his relative on any census or death records.

Any advice please,

Cheshire / George Baker grave
« on: Thursday 28 November 19 14:47 GMT (UK)  »
I am very interested in Family History and have been asked by a friend if I could locate a grave for his ancestor who was buried at St James's Church, Christleton on 22 Feb 1941.

He died tragically on 28th Dec 1940 as his body was found face down in water in a pit in the grounds of Salvatorium College, Christleton. It was well reported in a newspaper article which stated that Messrs Hallmark & Son carried out the arrangements.

I am assuming that the undertakers would not have been aware if the family planned to mark the grave with a headstone.

Australia / Cornelius Johannes Smulders

I am looking for his second marriage to Ruth Ida Abbott in Victoria, She was christened Ida Ruth Phillips although according to her death cert her Christian names have been reversed. She supposedly emigrated to Victoria in 1970 with her first husband Basil John A Abbott.

I found her with Cornelius on the 1980 Electoral Registers living in North Clayton. She died in 1982 and was cremated at Springvale Crematorium. He died in 1993. Both of them left wills.

As I live in England it is getting quite expensive to order records online and wondered if there is  any other way to access information.

Moray (Elginshire) / Grave Photograph
« on: Friday 03 May 19 17:32 BST (UK)  »
I wonder if it would be possible for someone to see if there is a gravestone for my ancestors please.

They were buried in Dundurcas Cemetery, Rothes plot 42 and there are 9 names recorded.

The earliest was for John Bremner in 1881 and the latest for Alexander in 1926.

I have searched Find a grave and very few photographs have been taken so far.

Thank you.

World War One / William Taplin
« on: Friday 02 November 18 17:38 GMT (UK)  »
Trying to find the death certificate of William and have searched all the resources I have available online.

He was a driver in the Royal Field Artillary, service no. 84458. His military records show he was invalided back to England in 1918 and he deserted at Woolwich. The records mention that he is deceased and there is reference to a copy of his death certificate. Can't make out the date but it looks like 1925 or 28.

I wondered if his death would be recorded at the GRO or just in the Army.
