Further to this post, it is either the lady on the left or the man on the right that is related to one or more of the ladies with the hats..... I have still no idea which.... and am still dreaming of finding out......

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,277379.0.html

Anyway after veering off topic, the point of this post is to ask opinions on date, and the uniform of this picture.

The lady is Jane Watt Manderson b. 5.10.1884
The man is George Dickson b. 27.4.1885

They married 31.12.1909 in Galashiels, Selkirkshire. George was a painter by trade.

I'm presuming the pic is pre WW1 but I'm not sure, which is where I'd like to ask your opinions on when it may have been taken and is there any way of identifying the uniform.

Thanks!!!

Leicestershire / Thomas Sperry
« on: Thursday 24 January 08 14:37 GMT (UK)  »
I have a bit of a brick wall as I am trying to find the birth and hence the parents of Thomas Sperry b abt 1800 possibly Hinckley, Leicestershire.

He married Mary Ann Warinton/Wointon/Warmington in 1824 in Leicester (St Margarets)

He died in Hinckley in 1838 (ref BMI index). So he passed away before the census records.

They lived in Hinckley and Mary was from Hinckley so it is a possibility he wasn't born there.

Can anyone help??

Thanks

Worcestershire / Pershore Burials where to look?
« on: Thursday 24 January 08 13:45 GMT (UK)  »
I'm not familiar with Worcestershire/Pershore at all.

Where do I look to find info on Samuel Rammell (d 1857) or Hannah Rammell nee Holling (d1855) both in Pershore. Are there any MIs I can get hold off? Or burial records?

Thanks

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Any idea of a date??
« on: Monday 07 January 08 16:34 GMT (UK)  »
This is a photo which was printed on a postcard. I am related to one of these ladies. Although I know I am unlikely to ever find out which one, can anyone maybe put a rough date to the picture?

It comes from a collection of my Mothers photographs, so it would have been taken in the Scottish borders somewhere.....

Aren't the hats fabulous!!!

Thanks!

Ireland / Lawler..............stuck
« on: Friday 04 January 08 11:25 GMT (UK)  »
I'm very very stuck and do not know where to look next. Tried ancestry, IGI, and various others, so I'm hoping someone here can shed some light.

My g.g. grandmother is Julia Lawler, she was born abt 1844 in Ireland (data from several census records). It only ever states Ireland, no indication of a county unfortunately.

From her marriage certificate (Dumfries, 1874) it states her father was Michael Lawler, labourer (deceased) and Mother Catherine Bonn (presumably still alive in 1874).

It appears that Julia met her husband whilst working at the local lunatic assylum in Dumfries, Scotland.  There is no record of her on any census records prior to 1881 in Dumfries.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Leicestershire / Where Can I find old Pictures?
« on: Friday 04 January 08 10:29 GMT (UK)  »
As it says I am really interested in finding what Sanvey Gate, Craven Street, Northumberland Street looked like before they were demolished as the majority of my partners family lived in these streets in St Margarets at several ponts in time.

Whether online or otherwise, where is good to look?

Thanks

Worcestershire / Rammell, Upton Upon Severn, where to look?
« on: Friday 04 January 08 10:12 GMT (UK)  »
Hello, I'm relatively new to all this so please bear with me.  :)

My g.g. grandfather Frederick Rammell was born abt 1804 in Bredon, Glos. He lived in Upton Upon Severn, Worcestershire and died there in 1870. I have his birth cert and he died by his own act of hanging and it states that he was of unsound mind. I'm now curous about the circumstances and why.

It was also about this time his son, also Frederick Rammell born abt 1829 left a job as a hairdresser, his wife and an apprentice to move from Worcester to sleepy SW Scotland to work at the local lunatic assylum!?! It doesnt make sense.

Anyway, is there anywhere online or other I can look up father Frederick in the local newspaper. Or has anyone any bright ideas on where I can look to find out more about the circumstances of either Frederick?

Thanks!

But was wondering if there is anything more comprehensive on the net or otherwise.

Thanks
