Cambridgeshire Completed Lookups / 1851 Census - Cambridge - Details Lookup
« on: Saturday 03 September 05 08:42 BST (UK)  »
Could sks possibly lookup the full details for the following entry on the census - Cambridgeshire is one of the few counties I don't have.

HO107/1760 804b - Cambridgeshire St Clements

Jeremiah Rushbrook  55
William Rushbrook 16

Also if there are any other families in the entry as I believe most of the daughters may have married by then.

Thanks

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / 1851 Census Index - Stamford, Lincolnshire
« on: Saturday 12 March 05 13:06 GMT (UK)  »
Does anyone have access to the 1851 Census Index for Stamford in Lincolnshire and could possible check out a name for me please?

Wiliam Stevens Ray married Mary Norton in 1853 at Stamford All Saints, by 1861 they are down in Sussex.  I was wondering if he was in Stamford in 1851?  He was a jeweller by profession and may have been born about 1826 in Battle in Sussex (according to the 1871 census), although I suspect not.

I appreciate that the index may only give surnames but was wondering.

Thanks

Yes, have done that too.  Also, if I remember correctly Tunbridge Wells often got referred to as The Wells.  Mind you I wonder how many locals actually called it Royal Tunbridge Wells??!  We moved from Tonbridge to Royal Leamington Spa, but few if any locals ever refer to it by it's full name, and the local TV news have a habit of only calling it Leamington!

To add to the confusion, they're both pronounced the same with the "u", unless of course it's changed in the last 30 years since we moved from Tonbridge to the Midlands!

Hi Judee and Genni

Thanks for the information.  It was simply that, I didn't know if the marriage certificates would include fathers' names (as over here) so parent's names with maiden name is a bonus.  Very tempted because it would confirm once and for all hopefully that we have the right marriage for the parents!  I think I'll purchase a copy.

I hadn't looked for a death of Sarah Warner, don't know where Thomas went after that.  An 1858 letter in the family mentions he is prospecting with someone but the name isn't very readable.  We'd assumed it was a bad Sarah but looks unlikely now.

Hi Geoff

Thanks for the link.  Unfortunately 30$ is in excess of £10, more than it costs here and all I really want is the first name of the spouse!  I know the marriage date.  Oh well, Mr Thew will have to stay as "?"!  Got much more important lines to spend my money on.  Had hoped someone local might have had access to hardcopy index post 1945 as the 55 year rule should have expired (is this the privacy limit?) by now.  Perhaps one day.

I've located what is believed to be the marriage entry for one William Thomas Rayment in Victoria in 1853 (ties in with his known date of marriage, just didn't know in what country).  If I was to purchase online a copy of the certificate, what other information would be provided on it in addition to the names of both parties and date of marriage?  Just wondering if it's worth purchasing or not.  Unfortunately the pound isn't so strong again the aussie dollar these days so they work out more expensive than the price of purchasing one from the GRO here!

Thanks.

Following on from the great help received on locating some NZ relatives, was wondering if anyone in Australia could possibly help me with the first name of the groom in a 1948 marriage since the online indexes don't go this far forward.

My great Aunt Ada Pledge married a gentleman by the name of THEW on 23 July 1948, believed to be in Sydney.  If anyone could confirm his first name, I'd be grateful.  I'm assuming, rightly or wrongly, that there would be a corresponding entry in the indexes for him and these can be consulted locally???

Aunt Ada didn't stay married long, came back to the UK and divorced, hence the reason we don't know her husband's first name.  It would just look so much better on the family tree if he wasn't "? THEW"!!

Any help appreciate.

Hi Tor

Many thanks for the link to the Windy City Steelers, it is the correct Geoff Rashbrooke and I've just received a reply.   It sounds like it may be longer than 30 years since the last contact but hopefully this time we'll stay in touch.
