Armed Forces / Marriages in the British Army
« on: Sunday 05 October 08 11:39 BST (UK)  »

I'm looking for possible reasons for the following situation.

My g/father enlisted in the Army Ordinance Corps in 1898. He went to South Africa in 1899 and returned in 1903.  His service records state he was home from 1903-1911.  He went back to South Africa from 18/10/1911 to 21/9/1914 was home again and then served time again during WW1.

On 3/12/1904 my g/father married my g/mother at "Christ Church" in Luton Kent.  Details on the marriage certificate state Bachelor (Aged 27) and Spinster (Aged 25).

First child was born on 12/9/1905 in ?illingham UK.

On 9/4/1906 g/parents married again in a Registry office in Kent.  The marriage certificate gives the same details relating to their parents and occupation.  The second certificate gives marriage status as Bachelor (Aged 27) and Spinster (Aged 26).

Would there be any Army related issues that would account for my g/parents marrying twice?

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Help with Ada Olive Smith
« on: Saturday 13 September 08 14:04 BST (UK)  »

I'm looking for help finding info on my grandmother Ada Olive Smith (abt 1890) and her parents. 1901 Census has Ada living with her grandparents Moses Smith and Olive Smith. 1891 Census Ada Olive aged 1 is living with her parents Thomas Smith (28) and Ada Marie (28). The 1901 Census also lists a grandson, Leonard T, aged 8, living with grandparents Moses and Olive Smith.  Have assumed the 2 grandchildren are living with grandparents because parents have died, but cannot find any details on parents death.

Ada Olive Smith also appears to have married my grandfather William Thomas Hammond twice.  In 1904 and in 1906.  Any suggestions as to why married twice?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

I'm researching the Heuzenroeder family history.  Does anyone have any info on Carl Ferdinand Hugo Heuzenroeder. He came to Sth Australia approx 1858-61.  We know that he had at least 2 children, Selmar T and Carl Ferdinand. His wife was Conrad.
