Armed Forces / 76th Regiment in 1870's - looking for Thomas Hedges
« on: Wednesday 23 May 12 14:08 BST (UK)  »
In 1877 my great grandfather, Thomas Isaac Hedges was a Lance corporal in the 76th Regiment.  (This was on his marriage certificate).  I have been unable to find Thomas on the 1871 Census so am wondering if he was abroad with his regiment.  Can someone help with this query please?  I would like to know when he enlisted and then left the Army.  He was married in Kent and was still in England in 1881 and thereafter.

Hoping to tie up some loose ends with this info,

Kind regards,
Dot.

Lincolnshire / Parish Records search for William Simons please
« on: Monday 25 July 11 13:31 BST (UK)  »
I am wondering if someone could please look up Parish Records for any information on William Simons. I have his birth as 'around 1811' at Denton, Lincolnshire.
I am trying to get further back with this branch of my husband's family.
He married Elizabeth Peach - born 1811 at Fulbeck, in 1831, also at Fulbeck.
I would really appreciate details if any of William's parents.
Thank you,
Kind regards,
Dot.

Census and Resource Discussion / 1861 Census, date taken
« on: Sunday 24 July 11 07:39 BST (UK)  »
I'm back doing a branch I left three years ago - time flies doesn't it?
Can someone please help me with this request?  I would like to know what date the Census was taken in 1861.  I have an ancestor who died in September of that year and I am at a brick wall with this one.
He was known as Godfrey on the earlier censuses - 1841/51 but on 1861 he was John!
I'm wondering if they are the same person or if John was the new man in the house!
Kind regards,
Dot.

The Common Room / Where to look for an "Institution"?
« on: Tuesday 12 October 10 06:04 BST (UK)  »
I have a relation listed on the 1911 Census as being in an "Institution" in Brentford, Middlesex.
He was aged 9 so one could assume he was an orphan or maybe a child placed there while his parents were moving.  I know that his father and brother had emigrated, so he could have been there until he was sent for.
Is there somewhere I can search for such a place?

Kind regards,
Dot.

I am on the scent of a whole new branch!!!
Hopefully,

Wiltshire Lookup Requests / 1861 Census lookup please, Jeremiah COLE
« on: Sunday 03 October 10 15:46 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find Jeremiah Cole in 1861.  I have him in 1851 at Kingston Collingbourne with his wife, Mary Anne and daughters, Mary HJ and Martha.  He is listed as a schoolmaster.
He next appears in 1871 in Ashford, Middlesex, with wife, Elizabeth, daughter Martha Lewis and step-daughter Catherine.  He is still a schoolmaster.
I've been unable to find a death for Mary Anne or a marriage between Jeremiah and Elizabeth.
Here's hoping some one can find some information on this one, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks and best wishes from
Dot.

Surrey / Still looking for Maria Cole
« on: Thursday 09 September 10 15:43 BST (UK)  »
I am searching for details of Maria Louise Cole, sometimes known as Louise Maria.  She is shown on the 1901 Census living in Wandsworth with her husband Owen Joseph and two children, Robert Thomas and Kathleen.
Maria was born in 1874 in Pimlico, London.
Another child, Walter, was born in 1902.
Owen Cole and his son Robert emigrated to Australia in 1909, and the shipping list shows Owen as a widower.
Walter shows up on the 1911 Census in an 'institution' (probably an orphanage).
I have been unable to find any trace of Maria/Louise after 1901 or a record of her death.
I would really appreciate any help with this brick wall.

Regards,
Dot.
p.s.  I've been able to trace Maria's two sisters up to nearly 1920.  Frustrating.

Northamptonshire / Shaw - Parish Records look-up please.
« on: Wednesday 24 March 10 14:37 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if someone can help me with a look-up on the Parish Records of Northampton All Saints?

I am searching for a baptism and death notice for Ann Shaw of that parish.

The only details I have for her are a marriage to Joseph Manning Mulliner, on 11th January, 1827 at All Saints.  She was my great-great grandmother.

I have found two children - Joseph born 1828/9 and Thomas born 1832.  They are shown on the 1841 Census with their father but there is no sign of Ann, who may have died.  They were living in Bull Head Lane, St Sepulchres then.

I would really appreciate any information on the Shaws.

Kind regards,
Dot.

I am searching for my grandfather's siblings, Edgar Austin and Louise Elizabeth Cole in 1891.  Their parents were Thomas Edward and Anna Lush Roberts Cole.
Edgar Austin, born 1864 in Fontmell, Dorset.
Louise Elizabeth, born 1866, Fontmell, Dorset.
I found Edgar on the 1881 census, living in Ashford, Middlesex, but there was  no sign of Louise.
I would very much appreciate some help with this Census.

 Regards,
 Dot.
