I have found out a few things which may or may not help. There are online trees with some information about this family which you would need to check of course; Thomas was a Farmer, and he married Elizabeth Croft 18/10/1787 at Hull Holy Trinity Church. There is a son born in 1788 Hull, Robert Dobson. It looks as if Elizabeth their daughter might have been known as Betsy, and if this is her then she was born 31st October 1799 and baptised 3rd July 1800. There is handwritten information about her, but it is on non-conformist paperwork, so not sure. She was married 19/10/1818.

This looks as if it could be his birth certificate information that would give you the name of his mother. Joseph Harrison - Cockermouth-March1841 qtr- Vol 25-Page 97

New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: Historical Child Welfare Records in NZ

HI, are you in NZ or UK?
I have found a tree online that looks to be that of your fathers, it includes his name as John/Jack Gray/Skinner. Is this your tree? It even has a photograph of him.

Sussex / Re: George Goble (1602) married Margaret Kilsie

Kia Ora,

Just love NZ, been there several times!
All I have been able to find is a baptism for a George Goble Oct. 1602 Duncton, Father George Goble.
There is a burial for a Margaret Goble 28/12/1632 Petworth Sussex, but there were several Goble's living in Petworth at the time, so probably not her.

Family History Beginners Board / Re: Ages on parish registers

Welcome to Rootschat!
As you definitely have his DOB on his baptism record then this would be the correct record. Burial record dates are less reliable depending on who gave his age at the time-"I think he was about etc.) The other option is of course this could be two different people. Do you have a copy of his death certificate?

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Re: Stephen Vicars/Vickars/Vickers - c1781

On FreeBMD for the marriage I mentioned it shows for names if you go into the detail of it. Harriett Carter;Stephen Vicars;James Eggleton; and Mary Ann Bolton. On the 1851 census it shows a daughter who is married, but aged only 19 years old, and Stephen at this point is 70. I know lots of trees online show Mary Minns as his wife, but I did not see any detail of where this record came from. So all a bit confusing. Maybe you have the original Parish Records.

No baptism, but a marriage on FreeBMD in 1844 Sept qtr Reading to a Mary Ann Bolton, so you could get his Father's name from buying the certificate. He was buried 17/1/1858 and had been living at Horn Street Reading at the time of his death.
