Herefordshire / Whitney
« on: Tuesday 26 October 04 16:06 BST (UK)  »
I am researching the family of Susan Whitney Greenly b.1827 Much Birch and know that her parents were William and Elizabeth. I have been unable to find Whitney Greenly going further back, but have found a William Whitney and an Elizabeth Greenly, both born in Burghill whose dates seem to correspond. I'm sure they wee known to each other as William's sister Elizabeth was christened the same day as Elizabeth Greenly. I believe they got married and put their names together. Does anyone have any information about this? Thankyou

I am researching the Whitneys from Hereford and believe from census records that William Whitney, born approx 1843, moved to West Bromwich with his wife Mary Ann and family. I know that by 1901, one son, ARTHUR, was still in west bromwich working as an iron moulder and would love to know if anyone has any more  information - either further forwards or backwards in time.

The Common Room / The elusive Amy Bowen

I'm trying to trace my great grandmother Amy Bowen born Hereford 1882. I know she went to work in Lothersdale, Yorks for mill owners but became pregnant and returned to Hereford to have the baby-Ernest Wilson Bowen- (who was then brought up in Wales by other relatives.) The last we know of her was 1907, a postcard sent from Titley, Hereford. We realise she could have gone anywhere and have searched for her on just about everything possible. We'd love to know what became of her. Any information or ideas would be most welcome.

Herefordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Morgan Hereford all saints look up

Your information confirms that Emily did not die as an infant, something we thought may have happened as we had no record of her other than when she was 4 months old. It also confirms the age of Charles Morgan, that other than Mary Ann  there were no other children and also gives their home as a lodging house - interesting as daughter Sarah was running one by 1881.
Thanks so much for your help and for being so quick off the mark!

Could somebody please help by looking for Charles Morgan on the 1871 Hereford census. He should be approx 33 yrs old.  In 1861 he is living at 36 West st and by 1881 has moved down to no. 25 (Hereford All saints.) He is married to Susan/ Susannah and has children Joseph, Sarah Jane, Thomas, Emily, Julia and Amy. We are not sure who survived to adulthood or indeed if there were any other children and this would help us to find out. Thankyou very much.
