World War One / War record for Thomas Eagles
« on: Friday 28 November 08 10:56 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Could anyone help with finding the First World war record for  Thomas Eagles?

He was born Oct 1889 in Liverpool, married to Eliz Titherington 26 Mar 1917 in Liverpool. Family stories tell that he died in this war but as he had a son  born 11 Aug 1919 I think if this was true he must have been very unlucky in being one of the last to die. ???

I have tried the Ancestry website with no luck and unfortunately do not have access to the other sites.

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Rumney Burial
« on: Tuesday 21 October 08 23:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Would anyone have access to burial records for the Rumney area?

My GGrandfather William Charles Williams died 17 Nov1894 in Rumney and with the lack of other info, I thought if I could find a headstone, it might throw some light (here's hoping ::) )

England / Using middle names
« on: Thursday 25 September 08 11:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am trying to research my ggrandfather in the middle 1800s who has a middle name. Due to his (extremely) common first and surname I have hit a brickwall so this middle name may be of great significance.

Has anyone come across ancestors who had no middle name at baptism but had aquired a middle name later in life?  Or has anyone any idea if adopting a middle name was a common or rare occurence?

Thanks in the hope

Somerset / On the Road to Nunney?
« on: Tuesday 19 August 08 17:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Does anyone know which road into Nunney used to be called "Road To Nunney"?

I know there was a "Road to Frome" which looks obvious but there are I think about four other roads in, would this saying apply to all?

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / John Eagles born in Kingstanley c1820?
« on: Saturday 19 July 08 08:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I would like to ask if someone could very kindly  look at the Kingstanley parish records for me to see if my ancestor - John Eagles was born around 1820 in that parish.  If so I would be very grateful.

I made a trip down to Gloucester RO last month (dragging my ever patient husband and caravan) but I have just found that I was looking in the wrong area.  :(

John Eagles must have been a bit confused because on each successive census return he put a different birthplace in Gloucestershire!

On the 1861 Census birthplace  - Stanley St Leonards
            1871 Census,                  - Stanley
            1881 Census                   - Stonehouse
            1891 Census                  -  Kingstanley

I have checked Leonard Stanley (same place?), hopefully there is no place called simply 'Stanley' and looking at my records, I have nothing for Stonehouse so I am presuming this is a larger area within which the Stanley's are included.  Advice as to whether this is correct would also be very much welcomed.

Hopefully, someone can help. ::)
