Occupation Interests / Litholite worker
« on: Thursday 20 May 21 20:20 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone tell me what a Litholite worker is?  Is it same as lithographic or completely different.  I'm looking at someone who gave that as their occupation on their WW1 service record - company name is Hunt and the individual lived in Hackney if that helps.  Thanks in advance.

World War One / Translation from German to English
« on: Monday 29 March 21 17:40 BST (UK)  »
Hoping someone can translate the Ancestry record below:
https://www.ancestry.co.uk/imageviewer/collections/2958/images/40087_prep150_000080-00234?treeid=&personid=&hintid=&usePUB=true&usePUBJs=true&_ga=2.94613724.1515079948.1616698636-1259281829.1597425789&pId=62014

Its from the Berlin, Germany Deaths record set and it relates to a WW1 soldier, Gunner 31738 Ernest William England who died on 13 or 14 October 1914.  I would attach a jpg but its large and I would have to attach 3 separate images.  Thanks.

*EDIT - i've just checked the PoW website which states he was last seen at Lille (Mons) and then at Minden, Germany - a quick google says this is a 5-hour drive.  I didn't realise PoWs were transported so far.

World War One / Help translate German / Prisoner of War Record
« on: Saturday 13 February 21 19:31 GMT (UK)  »
Hoping someone can translate for me please.

Private 69396 James Frederick William OAKHILL, Northumberland Fusiliers died whilst a Prisoner of War.  His name is on the GrandGeurre website but I can't work out what he died from. There are 3 references and I've attached one of them.  I think the key word is "Darmleidon" but I can't find a translation.

Berkshire / Cold Ash, Berkshire
« on: Monday 07 December 20 17:20 GMT (UK)  »
I'm struggling to find my ancestors birth and/or baptism.  Her name was Florence Lilian ARCHER.  On the 1901 and 1911 censuses she put her place of birth as Cold Ash, Berkshire circa 1871.   I've searched using FreeBMD, Ancestry and FamilySearch and can't see any possible births/bapts. but don't know the area at all.  Any suggestions appreciated.

Florence went on to marry Sidney Collins c1900 (I've ordered a potential marriage cert. but not received it yet).

World War One / WW1 Fiji Infantry Regiment
« on: Saturday 12 September 20 16:13 BST (UK)  »
Looking for information on a British soldier who served with the Fijian Infantry Regiment in WW1.  The only details i have are the name that appears on the Hackney Wick War Memorial - F. Gray.

I've tried google and found https://www.freewebs.com/fiji/ but he doesn't seem to be listed.

Any thoughts or ideas of where else to look really appreciated.
