Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Re: enhancing photos?

If you do not have anything better than MS paint, I would suggest once the new versions arrive you download a copy of PhotoFiltre which is free for personal use and has several useful features for improving photographs.

Also they look like they might be 8bit or less colour depth, so ensure your new copies are full colour ones.  Its much easier to work on 16million colour images, even if they are just black and white

Technical Help / Re: New scanner Information please.
« on: Thursday 23 June 05 13:26 BST (UK)  »
I got a Canon 5200F from the ebay "canon outlet shop" and its been excellent.  It has dust and scratch removal built in and can read negs and slides as well.

Its easy to use and the drivers seem very good.  Auction ended on a Sunday night and the scanner came by Carrier on Tuesday morning. Box was a bit bashed as it was a refurbished one, but I only paid £50 for a £100 scanner with a 12 month warranty I was very happy with it.

The image is a bit small but here is my attempt.  I have used levels to pull the image back and then used a saturation layer to reduce the discolouration.

it should keep itself upto date?
Does it show a date for its Virus Signatures?

I suspect it may not have been updating it's self.

It might be, the Generic Host process is a genuine part of windows, but obviously something is upsetting it.

The first thing to do is to ensure your data backups are up to date and off the machine.

What Virus checker are you running?  Make sure you have the latest signature files and that you have done a full scan,  also try running Spybot and or Adaware to check for spyware and trojans

An almost, but not quite in my family.

For the last 20 odd years, I have worked for a company writing software primarily for the Baking Industry.  So when I started out my first family was up the Mullins line (my maiden name)

What should I find
Charles Mullins my Great Grandfather x3 and George Mullins Great grandfather x4 as Bakers.

In between though were
A Stonemason, A Railway Plate Layer, A farm labourer and a Farm machinery salesman turned builder.
