Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / thrulines, how to interpret
« on: Friday 28 October 22 21:36 BST (UK)  »
I have a suggested 4 ggrandfather. One daughter has 2 descendants with matches to me of 14 and 15cm. Another daughter (possibly my 3 ggrandmother) has 23 descendants from 3 sources with varying matches, none of the 23 match the 2.
Is it likely that the suggested 4g grandfather is correct. I have traced the various lines and they seem correct.

The Common Room / Francis Siberry or Sibery
« on: Wednesday 17 August 22 20:17 BST (UK)  »
Francis Siberry married Mary Mallison in 1804 at Gainsborough Lincolnshire, they had four children whom I have been able to trace, Mary died probably 1826 in Gainsborough. Two of the daughters moved to Liverpool and that is where Francis may have died.I have the administration of his estate
January 1850, late of Hill St Liverpool.
On his daughters marriage her fathers occupation was given as mariner, so it is possible he died at sea because I can find no record of him after the last child was born.

The Common Room / Variation on a name
« on: Friday 22 July 22 17:14 BST (UK)  »
I was getting nowhere with my 4th Ggrandmother Ann Wilson, she married 1771 so probably born1748-1755 a few names seemed possible but nothing certain. I was looking at the marriage and noticed that one of the witnesses was Peter Willson. What a difference that extra L made ,there were whole families living there Including Ann with brother Peter and father Peter, Its not proved but definitely more likely, I often use the variation choice but Wilson seemed straightforward so I didn't use it in the first place but it wouldn't have helped , I tried it later and no willson came up. So don't give up, try your own spelling of a common name

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Shared matches D.N.A. Ancestry
« on: Monday 18 July 22 19:08 BST (UK)  »
If I look at shared matches and know which line of the family is the likely ancestor in common with one or two of them, am I right in supposing that the rest of the shared matches are also from that line?

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / DNA pointing toward one place
« on: Thursday 21 April 22 00:07 BST (UK)  »
My son's 5ggrandfather was born in Scotland, not sure where. DNA results include Scotland with a tendency toward Caithness. I don't know if I am reading too much in this but there are a lot of Cormacks (ggg's name) from there. Is this a reasonable idea for his or his parents place of birth,

The Common Room / William Challis Platt
« on: Thursday 24 March 22 22:08 GMT (UK)  »
William Challis Platt was born Jan 7 1864 at Newhall Derbyshire, the son of John Platt and Elizabeth Mary Challis, Elizabeth was John's second wife. There is a baptism for William Charles Platt [parents John and Elizabeth] at Shepshed in Leicestershire on July 3 1864 could this be a translation error? There is some family connection to Shepshed although I haven't found it yet. William's half sister was living in Shepshed with William and Elizabeth Blood in 1861 & 1871 who were grandparents.
William Challis marries  Ellen Jane Wain on Aug 29 1894 at Hartshorne, Derbyshire [Derbyshire records] but there is also a marriage 3Q at Ashby De la Zouch of the same couple.
Could someone please look at the original records. Thank you.

Derbyshire / Are there two Robert Goodalls?
« on: Saturday 18 September 21 00:15 BST (UK)  »
I have Robert Goodall baptised In Shirley Derbyshire in1731 seems a likely candidate for a marriage at Shirley in 1754 or 1755 to Mary Pountin.(this from Derbyshire records,  I think this particular record is a transcript since there are anomalies)
Robert and Mary Goodall have three children baptised in Longford Derbyshire but from Hollington. Derbyshire Esther 1768, Hannah 1772, Robert 1774.
Robert and Mary Goodall were buried in Shirley 1817, but both were from Longford,
The problem I am having is the gap from the marriage to the birth of Esther is rather large.
There are  baptisms for John 1755,Shirley and Alice Mickleover The place Mary was from at her marriage,
Are these the same Robert and Mary and there is an unknown reason for the gap did Mary Pointin die and Robert married another Mary?
