Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Help with photo please
« on: Saturday 07 January 06 14:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
Can anyone help improve this photo of my granddad. It was probably taken in 1922 at his eldest sons wedding, granddad died in 1933 when my dad was 13. We did not know of the existence of this photo until just before Christmas and I have just been sent a copy, as far as we know this is the only photo of granddad in existence. I would love it to look it's best when I show dad ;)
Dad is the only one of ten offspring still alive.
Heres hoping
regards
Linda

Armed Forces / Grandad was a Royal Fusilier
« on: Sunday 30 October 05 15:22 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
I am seeking help on where to look next.
My granddad Tom Dean b 1895 was in the Royal Fusiliers.
I think I have found his Medal Card. Under regt no it says 4091 preceded by what looks like "Spts". Grandad was born and lived all his life in the Newton Heath, Manchester/Failsworth area.
How can I find out more about where he served during WW1. He spoke very little about the war but he did tell me he had helped a frightened under age recruit. He wrote to the boy's mother and told her his service no. etc which enabled the boy to be repatriated. The mother wrote a thank you letter which granddad kept until shortly before he died.
Any help much appreciated.

Lancashire / Pauper
« on: Sunday 09 October 05 11:42 BST (UK)  »
I eventually found my gg grandfather in 1851 (the name had been mis transcribed >:()
He is George McVeety  born Ireland <1823> . Under occupation it says "Pauper formerly cotton weaver." I presume this means he was receiving some form of help from the parish. Where do I need to look for any records ??? The parish was All Souls Manchester.

The Common Room / Etiquette
« on: Monday 29 August 05 18:16 BST (UK)  »
I have read postings about repeated requests and now I am concerned.
In Oct last year I posted a request on the Cavan, Ireland board. My request was answered, but only with the info that there were 8  families on the Griffiths with one of the surnames.
I haven't any more real info apart from a slightly more exact date of birth. I know we are all getting greater access to info and RootsChat members increase daily. Am I allowed to "bump" the posting?
I use the unread posting facility so I am sure  other people do likewise.
RootsChat is brilliant and I really do not want to annoy anyone but it would be nice to have a answer ???
I would hate to be" blackballed" or "struckoff" ;D

Technical Help / Voodoo Lizzie
« on: Sunday 28 August 05 10:51 BST (UK)  »
MSN messenger came up with "Voodoo Lizzie online". As this is not one of my contacts I deleted and blocked the contact. I ran Norton antivirus and it detected a "trojan horse". This has now been deleted and fixed but wondered if anybody else has come across this ?

Hi
I need help to find Lucy and her husband William.
I have the following info

1851 Census  living at 29 Withens Row Brinnington Stockport
Lucy Roberts  m/in/law  married age 49  Stockport   (year of birth 1802)
She is staying with her daughter Ann and son in law Ralph Bowden. Also present is another daughter Eliza age 20.

1861 Census living at 9 Holt Town New Cross Manchester
Lucy Roberts M/in/law married age 54 born Stockport (year of birth 1807)

I have found the death of a Lucy Roberts in Stockport in 1895 at the grand old age of 88! I am going to send for the cert but now I need to see if I can find her in the other censuses.
I hope she is mine! only aging 5 years in 10 and living to that age :)
