Cheshire / Lucy Roberts
« on: Sunday 26 June 05 14:35 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I need help to find Lucy and her husband William.
I have the following info

1851 Census  living at 29 Withens Row Brinnington Stockport
Lucy Roberts  m/in/law  married age 49  Stockport   (year of birth 1802)
She is staying with her daughter Ann and son in law Ralph Bowden. Also present is another daughter Eliza age 20.

1861 Census living at 9 Holt Town New Cross Manchester
Lucy Roberts M/in/law married age 54 born Stockport (year of birth 1807)

I have found the death of a Lucy Roberts in Stockport in 1895 at the grand old age of 88! I am going to send for the cert but now I need to see if I can find her in the other censuses.
I hope she is mine! only aging 5 years in 10 and living to that age :)

Lancashire / Help needed, Newton Heath Manchester
« on: Sunday 27 February 05 19:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hi I really need help with this one.
Tom Dean my grandfather born 1895.
Tom's father was William and mother Hannah nee Pollitt.
I have William and Hannah's marriage certificate, they were married at All Saints church Newton Heath 30 Aug 1886. William was aged 21, Hannah aged 18.
William's father is named as Thomas occupation foreman. Hannah's father was John Pollitt occupation foreman. Witnesses John Henry Heatley and Jane Pollitt.
I have found William and Hannah on the 1901 census at 11 Victoria Terrace.Newton Heath.
William aged 33 and Hannah aged 33. so that would have them born 1867.
I have them both on the 1891 census at 70 Droylsden Rd Newton Heath, William aged 23 and Hannah aged 20. Also in 1891 I have Thomas Dean living at 19 Church St  Newton Heath aged 56 wife Ann aged 55. Have I lost you yet ???
Now I have what looks like the same Thomas in1871 occupation painter aged 34.
with a son William aged 4 so age fits.
I sent off for a birth cert  of William .born 1867 father Thomas and mother Ann formerly Berry. Father's occupation was given as labourer.
Now comes the tricky part, can I assume these are the same family?
I can't find a marriage for Thomas Dean and Ann Berry, I noticed a gap of 4 years between William's birth and that of his older brother so I tried that time as well in case there was a second marriage. I can't find the family in 1881.
Please can some of you clever people look at the info and see if I'm missing something obvious ???
sorry about this being very long but I have tried to include all the info I have. :)
Many thanks

The Common Room / Divorced, deserted or dead?
« on: Saturday 11 December 04 21:03 GMT (UK)  »
My g.grandma, Kate Emily Maria Voigt married Patrick Christopher Melia in Manchester. Some time after 1901 he disappeared, oral history states he may have gone to America, but I have not found any proof. My grandma told me he had been declared "dead", but I wonder if they were divorced. My g.grandma married again probably between 1910 and 1920 to a soldier named Jack Randle (Randall), who had a daughter Florence May born <1908>. My mother born 1922 remembers getting a "pension penny" from her grandma every Tuesday. I just wonderd if anyone knew what kind of pension that would been? I haven't managed to find the 2nd marriage but if I did would the cert tell me if Kate was divorced etc? I really need help with this! thanks

How to Use RootsChat (Please don't post requests here) / Caution or not?
« on: Wednesday 17 November 04 17:58 GMT (UK)  »
I received a message today from someone asking for help. There was no idea about what kind of help,or about what( the english was not very clear). The message aked me to reply to an e-mail address. The person who sent the message had only joined rootschat today and had not posted any requests.
I am concerned because if I reply to the e-mail address, my e-mail address is then known to this person, however I have received such a lot of help from this site that I would hate to think I wasn't" doing my bit to help others.
Any advice?
Linda
