Northumberland / Re: Woodhorn lookup request - Whittingham baptisms 1792

I seem to recall that some of the early Whittingham records are in a bad condition but it's Wednesday tomorrow so I'll check it out for you  :)

For future reference the Morpeth MIs are at Woodhorn.  Three copies, in fact - 2 on fiche and one microfilm  :)

Sadly, as Janis says, no entry for John Hood.  I think that it is likely that he did not have a headstone.

East and West Newbiggin are listed on the Northumberland farm index as being places in Norham/Norham Mains.

I looked at the marriage entry but the only information not provided by Janis from her transcription is that they were both 'of this parish'.

Also interesting for the time is that both signed rather than made a mark.

Gosforth - otherwise known as Melton Park - from the pre-Woodhorn days when the record office was run from two sites, the other one being Morpeth.

Everything is now under one roof so I will have a look.

According to GENUKI it doesn't look like there is a copy at Northumberland Archives but I shall check tomorrow out of curiosity.  There is a copy at Newcastle Central Library though.

There's a lot of information on the Northumberland Archives website.

Unless you've already got a readers card from another county operating the CARN system then you'll need ID to get your readers card.  Also pencils - no pens allowed in the search room.

I would also suggest that you have a list of things you want to look at/for.  There is so much stuff in there you could waste hours looking in the wrong direction.

Hope you make it and enjoy the experience

I found one of your burials.

Buried in Seghill churchyard (thanks to Callum for that suggestion)

John Atkinson of 57 Astley Road, Seaton Delaval, buried 9th February 1938 age 81

Didn’t spot Harrison there nor in Horton but I’ll keep thinking.
