Europe / GERMANY: Horrendous Handwriting Help!!
« on: Wednesday 06 April 05 20:20 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help decipher this place of birth from the 1961 Census ??? ??? (the middle one )

In the 1871 Census this person's place of birth was listed as 'Prussia Berlin', but there is no way that this says Berlin  ???

To give you a clue - the one above says Islington and the one below says Manchester!!

I'm not sure whether its Russia or Prussia and have no idea what the second word says.

The person it refers to is my husband's gg grandfather.  He was the Lowenthal who came to England, so finding his birth place pretty crucial.  Have already tried naturalisation records - no luck  ::)

Any ideas anyone?

Please can someone look up the following reference on 1851

H 107 / 1479  113

I'm hoping to find a street either called Witton Street or Wilton Street.

I don't know how clear the writing is, but can you confirm which  of the above streets it is and what district/ward it is in.  Would also be interested to know if Samuel and Sarah Richards are still living at Number 48.

Thanks for your help

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Not so squiggly writing
« on: Monday 17 January 05 13:14 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help?  ???

I received a birth certificate that is registered in the District of Westminster and the Sub-district of St John the Evangelist in 1839.
The problem I am having is the address of the birth (and the father's address).  I assumed it said Witton Street or possibly Wilton Street, but can't find either of those in the vicinty of the church on either old or new maps.  The only Wilton Street I can find is behind Buckingham Palace, which I would have thought would be too far west to be in that Sub-district.

Any ideas anyone?
